HOLY CARP!!!
It's watermelon season.
Nothing is better than a good watermelon, better yet, a nice pair. :P

I prefer the old fashioned ones with the seeds.
I believe seedless watermelons have inferior taste and texture.

Depends where I'm at. If I were, say at my mum's, I'd neatly swallow the seeds. If I was at home, I'd be sitting on the back steps having watermelon seed spitting contests with the kid. :)

I agree about the flavour. The seedless watermelons I've had are pretty bland, but that's just about all we see up here nowadays. Now that I think about it, it's something I hardly ever buy anymore.

If it's the white little ones, I eat them. The black ones I spit out...usually.
And how are you today?

I bought a huge one yesterday for 10 cents a pound and it is the best one we've had in years.

Spit 'em out if I can. Otherwise I don't worry 'bout 'em.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I usually buy seedless because that is what's usually around.

Seed spitting contests are great fun. Never marry a woman who will not have a cherry-pit spitting contest with you. They have no sense of fun.

I spit them out. If I'm somewhere that spitting is not possible, I don't eat watermelon.

(By the way, there are more people saying they spit them than voted in the poll. What's with that?)

I'm the only one who chews them up and eats them.

I used to be a spitter but they really don't have a taste and are probably good for you.
Many seeds are.

This, from a site called ochef.com....who knows whether it's credible:

Nutritional Merits of Watermelon Seeds

Are the seeds in watermelon of any nutritional value, other than fiber? I am tired of picking them out, so have started eating them.

Yum, watermelon seeds. Actually they are eaten in parts of the world. In Nigeria, the seeds of certain types of watermelon are made into soup. They are eaten in China, as well, although the outer skin is removed by rubbing or scorching it off. In our book, either method requires more effort than simply spitting the seeds out.

However, for the merely lazy, eating watermelon seeds is a mixed blessing on the nutritional front. An ounce of dried watermelon seed kernels contains about 3 grams of zinc (or 25 percent of the Recommended Dietary Allowance for a woman under 50), and 2 grams of iron (or 14 percent of the RDA). On the minus side, it also contains 158 calories and more than 13 grams of fat. And there are quite a few dried watermelon seeds in an ounce.

Unless you chew them, however, the seeds are quite likely to pass right through your digestive system rather than being broken down and absorbed — so the nutritional loss/gain is a wash.

I used to spit them out, but a few years ago I started swallowing them whole. It's so much easier.

It is, Do You Chew?

When I was small my grandma told me that if you eat them they get caught in your appendix, start rotting and then you have a big tummy ache and you have to go to the hospital to get your appendix taken out.

I pick them out or spit them out. I once told my nephew, when he was about 5, the story of a watermelon growing in his belly if he swallowed ;~). He was petrified when we thought we saw a twig coming out of his belly button. He still says that wasn't very nice of me.
