I need to pick up a couple new suits. Anybody know of any events coming up at Men's Wearhouse, Filene's Basement, etc...? |

Check out Target and Walmart... regular prices are under $90 for two piece suites, no need to wait for "special events." Downside is that you get only two or three colors/patterns to choose from. Jos A Bank runs 50% discount every now and then (practically every 1~2 weeks), but the lowest tier is still 3X the price of Walmart and Target after discount. Large selections, though. |

$90. might get you a decent tie and an undershirt. lb |

Like I told Mik in the other thread... ties can be had at under $8 in Walmart, and pre-matched shirt+tie combo around $20 in Marshall's & TJMaxx.

I have done better than that... The cheapest 2-piece suite I've ever worn was, to my recollection, under $25 (after foreign currency conversion). A couple of relatives were touring China and brought that suite back for me as a gift. That was ~15 years ago. Any one here can beat $25?

I have always loved thrift stores. Granted, if you need a suit now you can't just walk in and expect to find something. But, if you hang out in them enough you will run into some VERY fine clothing in like-new condition. I detest suits, and all situations requiring them, but Jose will often come home with a really nice shirt he paid two bucks for. I'll wear it when I drink Two-Buck-Chuck.

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that crap. I'm nobody's clothes horse and I buy certain things at Walmart and Target, etc. But never anything for professional wear. There's a huge difference in look and wearability between quality clothing and that stuff. |

Cheapest decent suit is a J.C. Penney's Stafford. About $200, IIRC. OTOH, H,S&M is undergoing hard times...,might be some sales on that line in men's stores... |

Mens Wearhouse is gooood. I stopped a couple of places this morning, and figured on going back to JC Penneys and picking up a couple of $200 suits. I made the obligatory stop at Men's Wearhouse, though, and they had a buy one get one deal going on. The quality level of the suits were obviously good. So I bought two suits that were retailing at $899, marked down to $650, and picked up four shirts that were $70 marked down to $50 and were buy one get one free. Got em to toss in a couple of ties and a belt, too. Total outlay, $800. Retail Value-$2200. Probable actual normal value-$1500. |

MW can be excellent, but examine the suits carefully. I've seen some seconds there with flaws in weave, etc. |

This is Two-Buck Chuck. ![]() It is a wine Trader Joe's sells for $1.99 a bottle. I just checked and there is now a TJ's in TN in SW Nashville. Apparently they are not allowed to sell wine though. ![]() Be careful though; clearly TJ's is a conspiracy from the north and blue states. They put something in the food that causes mental illness. ![]() Trader Joe's Nashville, 3909 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215 Phone: (615) 297-6560 Trading Hours: 9 am - 9 pm Alcohol: Beer Only |

Typical Ax advice convo: Anybody: "Does anybody know anything about ______ or where to get ______ ?" Ax: "You don't need ______, you should do my thing instead. It's not what you asked but it's a lot better. Your thing sucks." Anybody: "Yeah but I asked about ______ ..." Ax: "Here's why my thing is better than what you've already made up your mind on."
