HOLY CARP!!!

A friend of mine asked me for suggestions: What kind of classical music might 3-4 year old children like? Of course, they may enjoy many things that also adults like, but which pieces might be particularly well-suited for kids of that age? My first two thoughts were: - Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" - Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" Any other ideas? |

Mendelsohn's "Songs Without Words" Maybe some Debussy there's a book with Doctor Gradus ad Parnasum and a bunch of other little ones that are enchanting. Play him some Brahms. Maybe the Intermezzo that seems all the rage nowadays...op 118 #2 |

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!

You might get the sound track to Fantasia, which has wonderful classical music. I suppose a lot of it might be too intense for a young child, I don't know... |

I gave my little nieces and nephews these CDs for their night-night music, featuring Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. They loved them. http://www.amazon.com/Set-Your-Life-Music-Prelude/dp/B0000041O2/ The CDs are available individually as well, under the titles Bach at Bedtime Beethoven at Bedtime Brahms at Bedtime |

Put on stuff you like. Play lots of different things. Spend time playing with your kid while music is on and see how he/she reacts to different music. Go from there. |

When I was really small I absolutely loved Grieg's 'In the hall of the mountain king' from Peer Gynt.. My parents had it on a 78, and me and my brother used to do this frantic dance around the lounge to it. We called it 'The wild record'. |

All the suggestions are good so far - esp. the helicopter quartet. - St. Saens "Carnival of the animals" - Schumann "Scenes from Childhood." - Messiaen - any of his "bird' pieces. - Ravel - Any of the 3 water pieces for piano. - Debussy - "afternoon of a fawn," preludes for piano. - Bartok - "Out of Doors Suite." - Mozart - anything |

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D | |
