He telegraphs in para 2 that he's either stupid or a liar. Jolly, you need to up your game a bit.

Sorry, para 3. THat lie about bankrupting the coal industry. It was a drudge fabricaiton, publicized here by LD in early Nov, and disproved in a few seconds of googling by yours truly.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Really? How do you parse his language about his aggressive cap and trade policy that would bankrupt anyone who tried to build a coal power plant? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdi4onAQBWQ&

Again, it was easily debunked by taking the quote in context (SF Chron had the whole interview on their website). I don't feel like doing the research a second time just for you. You can find it easily enough by searching on LD's or my posts from the last days of October or the first days on November.

The point is the author of this article is either stupid or is assuming his readers are.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Seemed like a pretty long section of interview to be thought of as taken out of context. I am sure that there was all sorts of clarifications and justifications and backpedaling after the fact, but he seems obviously to have said what he said -- unless of course you think the link I posted was cut and pasted and edited to distort what he actually said. That might be, given Obie's stuttering and hemming and hawing in the section I heard.

And BTW, as someone recently said, "I knew you'd ignore the question, its your standard MO when someone points out flaws in your thinking."

Neither do I. What does that have to do with this? The interview taken out of context by drudge came from the SF Chronicle, IIRC.

I wouldn't base any decisions on that article. It's a strange stew of truth, partial truth, outright lies, deceptions and magic tricks glossed over with specious examples.

Is this Obama's face and voice in this video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdi4onAQBWQ

The one where he's saying he will bankrupt the coal industry?

Or..... this one?

I remember the thread, and I remember you attempting to cover for Obama, but I don't remember it turning out quite the way you're claiming.

You missed the follow up.

Quote:

you can hear that he's trying to suggest that taking an idealogical stance against coal doesn't work if coal can be done cleanly. That doesn't change the fact, though, that clean coal technology isn't going to be universally available by the time his proposed cap & trade proposal would go into effect, and it would bankrupt more than a few factories using traditional coal.

The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

That would depend greatly on how its implemented. Its a far cry from what is implied in the nutter video.

Thought this was an interesting point, even if it should prove to be "truth, partial truth, outright lies, deceptions [or] magic tricks glossed over with specious examples".

In the aftermath of the Three Mile Island accident...ostensibly green antinuclear activists unwittingly boosted U.S. coal consumption by about 400 million tons per year. The United States would be in compliance with the Kyoto Protocol today if we could simply undo their handiwork and conjure back into existence the nuclear plants that were in the pipeline in nuclear power’s heyday. Nuclear power is fantastically compact, and—as America’s nuclear navy, several commercial U.S. operators, France, Japan, and a handful of other countries have convincingly established—it’s both safe and cheap wherever engineers are allowed to get on with it.

That's exactly what the man did, and the tape is there to prove it.

Now, what lying sumbich says otherwise?

I think the question is what lyin' nutter edited the tape so his words would appear out of context? And which poor sap - who should know better - just accepted it uncritically? (ps- that would be you, my friend)
