I do think Quirt has a point. They are kids, and their ages and financial circumstances being what they are....

The Bush twins were kinda' off-limits, and so was Chelsea Clinton. I think it would be nice if Bristol Palin were, too... JMHO....

And the other things we know, which you conveniently fail to mention, is that the baby is 4 months old and the father is a deadbeat.
Bristol doesn't work, and lives at home.

Levi doesn't work, and lives at home.

What makes one a deadbeat but not the other?

Sexist much?
Oh, yeah, we also know that the mother who supports Levi gets some of her money from illegally dealing oxycontin. You forgot to mention that as well.

Oh, and you also forgot to mention that Levi's mother said she is "living on disability payments and child support". That is something else we know.

You really would want your grandchild put into that environment? I doubt it, but heck I could be wrong about this as well.

There was that joke about Janet Reno. I guess that doesn't count, since we all know that John McCain is such a good guy. He must be, since he picked Sarah Palin.

Oh, and we also know that Levi's mother is deeply in debt -- as she told the judge that she's maxed out on her credit. You forgot to mention that as something we know.

No, you'll give it the credence you think it deserves, which is another thing entirely.

But Quirt! Sarah Palin can do no wrong!

Didn't you get the memo?
Anyone notice that the article never mentioned Miss Palin by name? It only refers to her as "Palin's daughter".

Oh, I'm just trying to keep Quirt informed about the type of people he is backing against Palin's judgment -- a deadbeat dad who is living off his mother who is a bankrupt, drug dealing, indicted, single mother on public assistance.

Quirt insisted that "We know that he isn't alone, his family supports him, and it's highly unlikely that the kid would be neglected."

I can't imagine what gives him the basis for that judgment in light of the public court records about the family.

Would you want your grandchild raised in that sort of family environment?

Bristol is currently a stay-at-home mom. This makes sense, as the mother is most commonly the infants primary food source. I don't think it accurate to say stay-at-home moms don't work. Therefore, Bristol not working outside the home is quite different than Levi not working outside the home. (don't know enough about Levi yet to consider him a deadbeat..)

In any case, this is all just part of the 'stuff' that happens when a couple breaks up. Sucks for them, that it's all playing out in public.

You might want to check your facts.

According to one source, in the United States, the percentage of mothers who breastfed in the hospital for seven days after birth ... even only sometimes ... was only 70%. At the six-month mark, only 14% relied exclusively on breastfeeding, and 64% never breastfed at all.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12728138?dopt=Abstract

In any event, I know plenty of working mothers who breastfed their children by using breast pumps.

My primary point was that being a stay-at-home mom (or dad!), especially to an infant, is equivalent to having a job. (minus the cash :( ) The breast feeding thing is just one several natural reasons why the full-time parent gig has traditionally gone to the mother.

In any case, I don't think the numbers you gave neccesarily dispute what I wrote. I used the words 'most commonly' and 'primary', when discussing an infant we know to be about 4 months old. I didn't say 'always' and 'exclusively' when discussing a baby over 6 months old.

Considering that, at the six-month point, we know that more than 60% of mothers NEVER breastfeed ... and that we know that, at one week old, roughly 30% of mothers NEVER breastfeed ... your comment about "most commonly" is clearly in error, and isn't worth defending. You're the one who used that as the reason why infant mothers need to stay at home, not me.

In any event, there's no reason at all why Bristol couldn't work, if she had any urge to do so. Levi could share the childcare duties, and, if Bristol is still breastfeeding, she could pump. Many, many mothers of infants in this country don't have the luxury of choosing not to work. If she's not working, that's a choice. It may be a reasonable choice, it may be a defensible choice, but it's a choice. And there's no reason the father couldn't share the childcare duties and make the same choice, if money is not an issue. The notion that the father must be the breadwinner and the mother must be responsible for childcare is antiquated.

If you don't want them in the actual house, they could probably put a double-wide on the lawn so as not to mess up the fancy furniture.
