I dreamed I was in a mathematics class at a university. We were studying Euclidean geometry, and there was an isosceles triangle on a massive blackboard, with none of the sides solved. Somehow, I solved two of them, and they worked out to 3.14 (pi), which caused an uproar and a whole bunch of yelling and additional calculation on blackboards that spanned all four walls of the classroom. Theorums, formulae, proofs.... It went on and on. It was a cool dream.

I dream about math class often, too. Except that I've forgotten to attend all semester and an exam is coming up, and I panic to try to figure out a way to avoid certain failure. I can't even remember where the classroom is, and the bell is about to ring. Even my locker is difficult to locate and the hallways are crowded. |

I had a dream some years ago, that I was late for my mathematics final. I got to class and realized that I didn't know CRAP on the exam. At the front of the classroom, in a long, narrow closet, was a mathematical puzzle that had been set up with lights. The maths teacher said that anyone who could solve it, would automatically receive a passing grade. No one had been brave enough to try it, all semester. I went to the front of the room and told him that I'd like to try the challenge. I could feel the dread that other students felt, concerning my chances of solving it. The teacher was derisive and sarcastic. Nevertheless, he unlocked the door and then shut me inside. The darkness felt warm and velvety. I suddenly felt perfectly calm and confident. The lights were green and set into the ceiling, and had to be turned on and off in a certain numerical/mathematical sequence. It took very little time to solve it, and when I walked out, the instructor, although he didn't smile, his eyes were twinkling.

I have that same dream, except it's about always about either history or, more commonly, Religious Education. No lie.

Interesting article, George. This leapt out at me:
I often have dreams like this, but because they feel "normal," before the real action starts, they don't awaken me. I don't wake up until the whole awful sequence of events is played out. |

Huge amounts of anxiety those dreams cause, eh? I played oboe in high school and I often dream that as an adult, I somehow agree to play a performance, although I haven't picked up the instrument in decades. I get up on stage, and in addition to not remembering how to play all the notes, I have no playable reeds. |

I have the Math class dream, and the performance dream. In the performance dream, I have a recital scheduled for the next day, and I totally forgot i was supposed to play a Beethoven sonata I haven't started learning yet. the sonata is sort of a combination of op. 27#1, and op 28. |

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D | |

I often have recursive dreams (where I sleep and dream in my dream), but the other night it was somewhat weird in that I had a co-recursive dream where the chain of "dream within the dream" was infinitely long

I've had those, Klaus. I dream I'm in my bed, dreaming. When I was a kid, I would sleepwalk, too. I had a "series" dream, one night. The dream sequence kept repeating, and then it would get progressively more violent, more graphic, and more appalling. I would wake up, and when I went back to sleep, I was right back into another replay of the dream, but WORSE. After about five replays, I finally got up, got out of bed, went and got a glass of water, and then stayed awake for about ten minutes. That was enough to break the cycle. |

Sometimes it can be quite irritating. For example, when I have a level 2 dream, I dream about waking up and am then confident that, since I just woke up, this must be reality. But I've only dreamed about waking up and am still in level 1. You can imagine that it gets even worse with a, say, level 5 dream.

I have often had dreams about waking up but I was still dreaming and the most bizarre things were happening in what I thought was reality. These often run in cycles as well where I "wake up" four or five times, each time things being more bizarre. |

Or I've said to myself in dreams, "Holy sh!t! This is AWESOME!! I need to write this down!!" only to awaken and forget every last bit of it, except for yelling at myself to write it down.

That's odd, Sue. I have this dream that I'm giving an economics exam to a group of students, except one is running late. The others have started the exam, and then I look out the window to see someone hurrying by wearing a large hat.

Dude... I'd still love to read the account of that. I've had one, too. It was spontaneous... One Sunday morning, I was sleeping in, and I began dreaming of hues of pastel light. Really bright and clear... I slowly awoke and found myself hovering about two feet to the left of my body, facing up, about two feet from the ceiling. I was ecstatic!! And of course, that brought an end to the experience. I was drawn slowly, inexorably back to my body, and after a moment of darkness, I was back "in." I was euphoric for the next week, though... |
