Jesus was there. He quoted the Sermon on the Mount - though he didn't cite the author....

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Churches commonly cover their crucifii and holy emblems when non-church functions take place in them.

A Bible believing Christian would say that all that IHS stuff and crucifixes are just pagan idols anyway. I never understood why, if people are to follow the 10 commandments, they give so much weight to graven images anyway.

When I was a kid, I was sitting in church looking at a crucifix and thought, Boy, Jesus sure had great abs... (and then briefly waited for the lightning bolt to come crashing down on my noodle)

It's art, a form of communication.

If a 2D picture is worth a thousand words, how many for the graven version?
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Not all Bible believing Christians are iconoclasts, of course.

Not sure of your point since the speech was not given in a church-- it was in a lecture hall. Catholic colleges often have crucifixes and emblemata as architectural decoration around the place, even in dining halls and classrooms. If being associated with Christian imagery is a problem for him, maybe he shouldn't schedule speeches at religious institutions.

So what again does that have to do with the supposed need to hide religious symbols during a public speech in an auditorium on the campus of a religious institution?

I have an idea, instead of shooting down my attempts at plausible explanations, why don't you enlighten us as to what it REALLY means?

I'm sure that when those crucifixes were designed, they amplified the images "skinniness" to demonstrate how low was his condition - you know, a big fat belly back then being a sign of prosperity (and God's blessing).

Anyway, I find it funny that Obama seems to be very aware of the symbolism conveyed in this circumstance, but yet he is a total noob with bowing to Saudi princes, shaking hands and laughing with despots and the like. I am also sure that (if it weren't for the uproar about this) that he would have been happy to speak in a mosque with a big ol' crescent and star in the background. Frankly, I'm starting to suspect that it's less about him being a greenhorn and more about him just being who he is.

I doubt it's Obie's agenda, but I am sure it is his handlers' agenda to control the PR side of things. Do you really thing that all those campaign images of Obie surrounded by a halo were just randomchance? They understand the importance of symbology, and don't want anything competing with Obie as the Anointed One.

I forget the whole weekly schedule but I think Larry or Mik have the Wednesday duty.
