HOLY CARP!!!
THE HORROR, THE HORROR

The Star Spangled Banner, butchered by 10 people who should have been shot on the spot!

If you can get through these you are a stronger person than I.

You must at least hear the last one all the way through.

Oh my gosh!

Not everybody can sing but if you try, at the very least, KNOW THE LYRICS!

Sheesh!

HOLY CARP!!!
Imagine trying to sing the original song on which the tune for the "Star Spangled Banner" is based:

To Anacreon in Heaven

To ANACREON in Heav'n, where he sat in full Glee,
A few Sons of Harmony sent a Petition,
That He their Inspirer and Patron wou'd be;
When this Answer arriv'd from the JOLLY OLD GRECIAN
"Voice, Fiddle, and Flute,
"No longer be mute,
"I'll lend you my Name and inspire you to boot,
"And, besides, I'll instruct you like me, to intwine
"The Myrtle of VENUS with BACCHUS's Vine.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!
