I have been quit for 16 days I have saved $145.83 I've NOT smoked 500 cigarettes My Quit Date is/was: 3/21/2009 7:00 PM It's been a pretty wild couple of weeks. I've progressed through the physical craves and overcome the physical addiction. I've gone through the mental craves and white-knuckled my way through a good bit of it. My pulse and blood pressure are good. Resting pulse is 64, blood pressure is 124/68. I've been having dreams like crazy.... Constantly. All night long. But they aren't bad. Quite enjoyable, really. I've been sleeping better and waking up more refreshed. My sense of smell and taste is returning. My circulation is better. My feet and hands aren't cold all the time, now. My coloring is better. I don't have that greyish smoker's pall, anymore. My breathing is easier. I never really had a hard time with that, but my sinuses and throat feel cleaner and clearer. Day by day, my confidence grows. I know that I am still an addict. I'm still weak. I'm trying to address the mental/emotional attachments that still plague me. Little by little, I'm sorting them out and "unplugging them." I was taking it crave by crave, hour by hour. Now I'm taking it day by day... The craves have really dropped off in duration and intensity. I think I'm going to be okay, this time. |

Thanks! A 20-year+ habit/addiction doesn't die a quick death, but the further along I get, the less of a pull it has on me.

Glad you're succeeding, Frank. Don't let up. Sometimes, as it becomes physically easier, it becomes mentally harder to maintain the non-smoking attitude because little smoking cues and leftover habits can sneak up while you aren't watching. Keep alert to better things to do. Big Al |

Thanks, Al and MS. And yes, I am remaining vigilant. I think I've finally got it through my thick skull that smoking is simply NOT an option. There are still triggers, though. The problem, as I see it, is equating smoking with pleasure and/or relaxation, and the tobacco companies have done their best to promote that misconception, as well. Each time I have a crave, I can do one of three things: 1. Postpone it. No crave lasts longer than five minutes. 2. Enjoy it, regarding it as a sign of healing. 3. Ignore it and keep busy. Each time I have a crave that equates smoking with something pleasant and relaxing, I am training myself to think: SIDS: Smoking Is Death & Sickness. Or just the plain ol,' "Cigarettes STINK!" Yuck. |

Thanks. I've wanted to do it for years, tried and failed so many times... The worst decision of my life was to ever start smoking. Time to rectify that.

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |

Thanks, Opti! ![]() Yes, I feel like I've got a new lease on life. I'm sleeping better, awaken with more energy, and I'm saving money like mad. With the money I'm saving, I'll be paying the motorcycle off a lot sooner than I planned, and then I'm going to use the extra money for a lot of accessories I've had my eye on. w00t!! |
