It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

HOLY CARP!!!
I just attended the memorial service last Sunday for my favorite Teacher, Lester T. Jensen. Taught English for 39 years at The Dalles High School after he got out of the Navy. He was 89 and retired in the mid-80's. Sitting in the service, I understood again why I majored in English Lit in college and got a glimpse of why I never once entertained the idea of being a teacher. I never could have held a candle to him.

That said, I was surprised to see Oregon in the dark blue category. I think our school district is pretty well situated - we seem to have a pretty young staff. We actually have lost a lot of our older teachers over the past 10 years because with the public employee retirement system it simply didn't make sense for many to keep working. (There have even been a few years where public employees were able to retire at 110% salary - one of them was my father-in-law).

ZOOOOOM!
Yep, my dad's right there.

They've been trying to push him out find a suitable replacement for him for years, but so far he's said no to all of them. He teaches astronomy at a planetarium. They've been trying to get people who know how to work the equipment, but he's told them time and again that what's important is knowing the book material, and knowing how to teach; not working the gadgets.

He's not ready to retire yet but it'll be coming up soon. I feel bad for the kids in my county. Whoever serves as his replacement is just plain not going to cut it by comparison.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I suspect that the right person will come along, Aqua. It'll be someone young, with a lot of enthusiasm, the ability to teach, and the ability to know the book material, as well. Chances are, it will be someone that your father has inspired. :thumb:

What's your favorite planet?

Mine's the sun. It's like the king of planets.

It's a simple question, doctor. Would you eat the moon, if it were made out of ribs?

No, but his anus is!

Oh crap, sorry, I got that whole joke wrong. Uranus is. That's it, Uranus is a planet. His anus is just a typical asshole, unlike Uranus, which isn't an assholle at all.

OK, who's the President of France? Uranus!

No, that doesn't work either. The answer is 'some assole'. Oh God.

I'm so confused, can anybody help?
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?
