HOLY CARP!!!
|
As usual, if Dubya had said this... |
|
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |

Many news reports suggest otherwise. For example, from the AP:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090404/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_how_did_he_do_analysis_1 David Gergen was also raving about Obama's trip, saying it's the most successful trip abroad by an American President that he can remember. |

I think the take-home message from the AP article is this:

Agreed. I'm trying to put things into perspective but he's pissed me off with a lot recently. This gaffe stuff doesn't really bother me much, but the military health care thing and the internet/state of emergency issue really piss me off. |

All of the above, JB. Are we absolutely sure whether he said "in Austrian" or "in Austria"? Seems like some people are desperate for something to complain about (and that comment is not directed at you. I've never noticed that tendency on your part.) Big Al |
