Pardon me. Flintlock pistols.
No need for pardon. Apparently, there were some sorts of things developed as "revolvers" back then, although Colt didn't develop the famous one until the 1830s.

(And if my neighbor wants to buy an AK-47 and an M-16, more power to 'im.)
That would depend on the neighbour. If it's the neighbour who is frequently seen sh!t-faced drunk in the local bar going on about how much he hates women, then no, quite frankly I don't want him owning an M16 at all. Call me a namby-pamby lily-livered liberalistic big government control freak if you will, but I don't want that f*cker anywhere near my wife or daughter with anything more potentially harmful than an eraser, and I definitely don't want him in charge of an assault weapon.

Well, even buying a handgun, you have to fill out a questionnaire.

I think there are four or five questions on it:
1. Have you been convicted of a felony?
2. Do you have felony charges pending?
3. Have you been convicted of Domestic Assault?
4. Do you have a restraining order against you?

If any of those answers is "yes," no gun for you!

I realise that - my problem is that this kind of questionaire doesn't really weed out a large chunk of nutters - even the obvious ones that everybody knows about who haven't crossed the line to committing a felony, never mind the guy who lives in his parents basement reading guns and ammo all day and watching Nazi porn.

I can see the argument for owning a hunting rifle, even a handgun for defensive purposes, however I struggle to find a reasonable justification for owning an assault rifle in suburban America.

Well.... We have hordes of soccer moms in SUV's, who talk on their cell phones too much. An assault rifle would just even the odds.

All fine and dandy, except the Treasury tests are now being reported as a sham.

Geithner's Stress Test a Complete Sham

But this is arguing that the stress tests aren't stressful enough (a claim I've read elsewhere too). It doesn't quite fit the conspiracy theory thesis that Obama is going to use them to refuse TARP returns so that he can control the banks.
Talk about a day late and a dollar short. Jon, get this lameass post out of here! Can't you see that this thread has been so thoroughly hijacked it's like Michigan State going up against UNC.

I don't disagree with you, but either way, if the test is not designed correctly the data it produces is not reliable.

Pardon me. Flintlock pistols.
You don't need pardoning.

While revolvers were a staple of the 19th century, there were multiple handguns of the period capable of firing multiple times from a single loading...not to mention rifles such as the Ferguson.

How's this for justification: They feel like it.

Or maybe just because.

I'm sure Renauda can speak for himself. And you can't stick to the topic, which is fairly obvious.

Go back and re-read how this discussion started.

On second thought, never mind. You'll just revise everything in your head to fit your world view. God forbid you admitted you were wrong.

That's how I feel about gay marriage. I'd rather have someone gay living next door to me than the misogynistic drunken Nazi porn fan with the M16, to be honest. YMMV.

Yes, gay people are much less dangerous than repressed gay people.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

You can't even understand the difference between disagreeing and being disagreeable. It is generally not possible to have civil conversations with you. But it's still entertaining to see how quickly it is that you have to turn everything into a toxic turd fest.

And it does not surprise me in the least that you are interested in "what COULD pass muster under the Constitution" and are arguing for the maximum amount of governmental control and as much of a reduction in civil liberties as possible under the letter of the law. Scratch a liberal....
The dogma lives loudly within me.
