I have four great looking 1" thick Tuna Steaks.
Marinated them in Soy and Rice Vinegar about two hours. Then coated them with Sesame seeds and crushed Pepper. I roasted some Elephant Ear Garlic.
It is already cut up and laying in the Olive oil the Tuna will be cooked in. Rare
Tiny golden potatoes boiled with onion served with chopped Cilantro and a little Oil.
Fresh whole Carrots, steamed in Honey.
Fruit for dessert.
Thanks for listening, I had to tell someone. My guests will pretend like it's nothing. :snooze:

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
We are having our 25th architecture school reunion tonight -- I found a chef from the Arizona Culinary Institute to cater a five course Italian meal.

Ivory, I have eaten at the Culinary school in Philly twice. Once it was out of this world. The second it was a "Game Night". They cooked any thing that walked in the forrest. I was less then thrilled. But that's just me.

Incredible.

Do you have some formal training, or are you just a self-taught culinary wiz? Your menus really impress me.

Great dinner. everything went well except Villanova could not make any three pointers. Oh well, Penn State won the NIT
Sue, just self taught. Liked to cook as a kid, married a lady that had no idea where the kitchen was. Sort of became, cook or die.

Vince, we have a lot in common. I liked to cook as a kid, and got more sophisticated as I grew more experienced. All self taught. Married Janet, who can cook well if she wanted to, but never liked it.

Rare seared tuna steak is one of my all time favorite dishes.

Last night we had pan roasted filet mignon with a little black truffle and a salad of romaine, spinach, arugula, goat cheese, dried cranberries and pine nuts. Made a quick strawberry balsamic vinaigrette.

Tonight I am making a Trader Joe's salad recipe I saw yesterday.

Lettuce, Pear and Fig Salad

! pkg arugula
8 black mission figs chopped
2 pears thinly sliced
Walnuts (they say candied, but I have raw so raw it is)

Dressing:

Blue Cheese
Heavy cream

Mik, I've mentioned before, I'm the baby of six kids. Had a single mother that worked in a mill, nights. She would prepare dinners before she left for work. Lots of one pot meals. As the youngest I always was given some part of starting dinner. Mashing potatoes, tossing a salad. I started to like it and took on more and more of it.
And none of my brothers picked on me about it being sissy. As long as I did it they didn't have to. And when I married (An Irish girl) who had zero interest in food. (Other then Chocolate cake),but we both liked to entertain, so I cooked and she cleaned up. Worked well.
Apple suggested Cold Asparagus salad with Walnuts a few weeks ago. I made it at that time and loved it. I started putting walnuts in all my salads, including the one I made last night.

...dried cranberries and pine nuts.

Such a fabulous combo.

Last night I made my sauteed spinach with garlic, pine nuts, and dried cranberries.

I also make a brown and wild rice dish with toasted pine nuts, dried cranberries, roasted garlic and sauteed minced onion. It is to die for.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I was the baby too - I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I've always been an odd mix of interests.

Haha. Sounds fun! I'm actually just having dinner with them, then it's off to our friend's senior percussion recital, then I'm going to Eric's to watch Brigadoon (sp?). Never seen it, but was asked to play the piano for our community theatre's production of it. Hope it's good!
And how are you today?

Grilling a couple of steaks, salad, maybe potatoes. And alot of beer.

Well, the new Weber's debut wasn't too hot. Overcooked the steaks. I much prefer pan searing.

Oh well, tomorrow's brats should go better.
