Anybody here like Caviar? I stopped by a friends for a visit yesterday and somehow the topic of caviar came up. I said that I loved caviar and when in Europe I ate gobs of it. He looked surprised and said you never told me you liked it. I said that there are a lot of things I like I never told you about. Late last night a car pulled in the drive and it was my friend and he gave me a package, it was a frikking pound of caviar, over $300. worth. He said it was as fresh as it could possibly be and let him know when I want some more. I had a real delicious day today. lb |

I like it. I remember eating caviar sandwiches in Odessa a few years back. |

Caviar is one of those things that people say you either love it or hate it. I can take it or leave it. |

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D | |

Best I ever had was with the a couple members of the Tattinger family in little pastry cups with sour cream and their new California sparkler upstairs at the Maisonette - also divine. |

HOLY CARP!!!

In spring of '92 I toured a Canadian built sour gas plant in Astrakhan on the Caspian. Before we left the Gasprom guide took us to the canning plant there where we bought 4 kgs of fresh Beluga caviar for $10.00 US. |

Man... I experienced a little of that, when I was living in Japan, making a Japanese wage, during the early 90's when the Yen was still strong to the US Dollar. The Missus and I brought what money we thought would be sufficient, and ended up going on a shopping spree. She bought a bunch of clothes. I bought a bunch of books, because although I am fluent in Japanese, I'm not so good at reading it. I returned with a massive hardshell suitcase FULL of books. To me, they were worth their weight in gold.... |

That's why I'm a fan of owning books, not necessarily renting them through the library. It's kind of a physical record of what I've experienced, y'know? Anyway, yeah, caviar's pretty good. Haven't had much exposure but what I've had has been pretty awesome. |

Caviar is a great treat. For the poorer of us, the humble salmon egg is a good substitute for everyday use. Ikura is one of my favorite items in a Japanese establishment. Actually, I remember giving some to my son when he was about five and watching in amazement as he devoured it. Thereafter the owner would hollow out a cucumber stand and fill it with Ikura. The kid would eat it like an ice cream cone. |

I was in Prague with an old friend, some around here may know of him, Otto Altenburg. We sat in a small bar and drank Ice cold Vodka and ate Caviar, with black bread and chopped onions. One of us led the way back to our hotel. I have no idea who. Thank God we were walking. |

i was given some caviar once. 20 pounds of the best caviar - it was so fresh it was still in the fish - it was delicious everyday for 100 days. (guess the actress) anyway, i was given some caviar once, (a fair amount of 'not the best') and made some of it into sushi.. omg - it was awesome. i ate it normally too and i tell you, that sushi was to die for. |

Never got excited about it, tried it maybe 3, 4 times. I love enough indulgent, expensive things; so I don't feel the need to 'educate' my palate to enjoy caviar. If, however, I were to find myself in Prague, and presented with what VPG described, I would give it my full attention, and try to see what I was missing.

A fairly conservative price for online American paddlefish caviar. You can pay two or three times that in specialty shops for the same thing.
That is the way to eat caviar, with a little butter on the bread, and I like the vodka real cold. lb |

Damn. The tuna fish I'm having for lunch seems pretty prosaic now. My experience with caviar is limited, but I've liked what I've had. Big Al |
