And it was lawyers who drafted these stupid laws.

We do not live in a mob-rule democracy Quirt. We are supposed to be living in a constitutional republic where the government is restricted from making such laws.

Apparently people are too stupid to figure that out.

Wrong again, Mark. It was legislators. Constitutionally-elected legislators. Some or many of them may be lawyers, but they didn't write those laws in that capacity. And I can be fairly certain that, at the town level, most of the town councilpeople are not lawyers.

Those laws sometimes date back 200 or more years.

No offense, dude... But could we get some good-lookin' ladies to be in charge of entertainment? :D

No, Mark, you just ignore all facts that are contrary to your views of what America should be. That's fine, I disagree with your views, but you're welcome to them. When you start pretending that the historical reality was something different than what it was, though, that I will not let pass.

There were no "good old days". It was always like this. Any differences are differences of degree.

That's your attitude ... "this isn't what the Framers intended". In fact, it's exactly what the Framers intended, because they did the same damn thing themselves.

You have said, many times, that the way we are running the country today subverts the intent of the Framers, because it restricts personal liberty in a way they would not have tolerated.

Are you changing that opinion?

My point remains ... given the kinds of idiotic laws enacted over the years, even in the time of the Framers, laws restricting immoral activity (such as cigarette smoking) are wholly consistent with the intent of the Framers.

Now, you may have a more utopian vision of the perfect society, where everyone can do as they please. But that is most assuredly not the country that the Framers envisioned, and we know that based on their behavior as legislators.

That is right. Abortion was illegal in this country for 200 years as well yet somehow it was determined that the Framers intended for it to be protected under the Constitution all along.
