Instead of finding fault, casting blame, etc... How would you guys fix this mess? What actions would you like to see our government take? The way I see it, here are some primary issues: Credit Default Swaps and their value Getting Banks to start lending again Proper but not intrusive oversight and regulation of the finance industry Stimulating Current Industry and Promote New Industry Spending Stabilize the Housing Market What other issues do you see, and what steps do you feel should be taken to address these? And Mark, God Bless Ya, and I agree with you idealistically on many issues, but this is for somewhat realistic ideas. We all know Income Taxes aren't going away anytime soon, and we all know that the government is not going to get out of Medicare, SS, etc... |

Look: I'll sort all of it out. *sigh* So tired of seeing everyone running in circles. Send me all of your money and all of the money going into the stimulus package, and I'll fix it all. |

Um, LD, yeah, as long as people who believe as I do relegate their ideas as "not-realistic" they will never happen. They are realistic my friend. All we have to do is get enough people elected to do it. We need to cut the budget of all federal and state governments in half as a start. Eliminate the income tax, and make government a servant to the people instead of the other way around. How did it get this way? 1913. As far as what I would do with the current mess? Leave it to die. Something better will rise naturally from the ashes. |

Absolutely! ![]() Seriously, I think the president needs to STFU and leave things alone. There should be investigations for fraud and embezzlement. There should be safeguards enacted to prevent mortgage companies and banking companies from handing out loans to people who can't afford to pay them back. The markets should be left alone entirely. If the whole thing comes crashing down to dust, then what emerges is likely to be more financially sound, more based on real values, and hopefully rooted in honesty and transparency. The government can't fix this. The government will only exacerbate it. |
