Wonderful... When I was in boot camp, I got three letters. When I was in AIT, no one wrote. When I was in Japan, no one wrote. When I was in Panama, no one wrote. When I was in Saudi, no one wrote.

I met the Missus before going to my advanced medical course. Then I got lots of letters. :)

But going away from Mail Call with nothing, and indeed, had it not been required, I wouldn't have bothered showing up... It was a daily reminder that no one gave a sh!t.

I imagine a soldier could feel rather left out & lonely not receiving something when others do.
Not everyone has a family, or a family who cares ...
