What Non-political Looks Like (Hans A. von Spakovsky}

Democrats complained endlessly about the supposed “politicization” of the Bush Justice Department. When asked about this at his confirmation hearing, Eric Holder piously pledged that his Justice Department would “serve justice” and “not the fleeting interests of any political party.” America, he intoned, was “in dire need of a less political and more independent Justice Department.”

But an e-mail and flyer recently circulated to Justice Department employees indicate Attorney General Holder has an interesting definition of what it means to be “less political.” The flyer invites all employees to attend a speech in the main Justice building on Pennsylvania Avenue. In fact, it notes, all “supervisors are encouraged to grant official time to employees to attend this event.”

And what pillar of the legal profession will be lecturing Justice employees to help them “serve justice” in a “less political” way? Why, none other than Donna Brazile, whose own website biography describes her as a “[v]eteran Democratic political strategist” and a Vice Chairman at the Democratic National Committee.” Brazile is marketed by more than one speaker’s bureau at a cost ranging from $10,000 to $20,000. The flyer doesn't say how many taxpayer dollars are going to pay a Democratic political consultant to speak to career employees at the Justice Department (sounds like a good FOIA request). Good thing the Department is no longer politicized.[/s]

Do you think that there would be a little outrage if they had been invited to hear Bill O'Reily, Hannity or (gasp) Limbaugh?

You equate Bill O'Reilly, Hannity, or Limbaugh with Donna Brazile?

Shirley, you jest.

You might have had a decent case if you'd tried Gergen, or even Rove. But you lost it when you tried to pull off the triple somersault with two twists.
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

Do you mean the Donna Brazile who said ""The American people have every right to know if Barbara Bush will share that bed with him in the White House."???

Why give her a pass for saying something more bombastic than Rush ever said?

This isn't about individual lines.

This is about who she is, and what she's done. And she has done things that Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Reilly have never done and barely understand.

Which is why Rove, Gergen, and Stephanopoulos are the more apt analogies.

OK, even if you accept the different analogy, would you have a problem with Justice employees attending a lecture by Rove - on company time?

How about Mary Matalin?

Depends on what she's talking about, George.

She was chief of staff to a member of the House of Representatives for a decade. Is that an experience that any of the people you've named can match?

Depends on the subject matter.

If the subject matter is how people at DoJ can do their jobs while resisting White House efforts to politicize the process ... somehow, I think Rove might not be the best person to speak to that subject. :whome:

"Vice Chairman at the Democratic National Committee." is OK, then. I'm sure that she will be as objective as Rove or Michael Steele. :lol2:

One thing I knew when Obama was elected was that these dance routines were going to be really fun to watch.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

That same thought crossed my mind too, JB. :lol2:
