Brenda - Have a great trip!!!! Don't worry anything you really need that might get left behind can be found over there.
Thanks, Cathy! It's still a time saver to try to remember to take the essentials. I hate wasting valuable trip time looking for some silly thing that I already have one of AT HOME. :D

I'm balancing this with the 'pack light' motto.

Passport.

Advil.

You can buy the plug adapter at the airport.

I have a friend who uses the noise-canceling headphones (Bose I think) and he swears by them.
Passports are in my travel purse. I switch to a smaller, across the shoulder and chest style purse for trips. My regular purse is also part briefcase, way too big for travel, unless I want to put clothes in it. j/k

Got Tylenol, cold meds, anti-diarrhea meds, etc. ready. Even got some little packs of Kleenex for daughter and self. She is getting over a cold, so guess who will likely have it next?

I'll check for the plug adapter when I get the second pair of headphones. Hubby swears by the headphones, too, for long flights. He says it really helps for watching the movie and for sleeping.

Please don't get into too much mischief while I am away. ;)

On a different note, RR, I need to balance all the negatives I mentioned about campaigning. There are just as many positives for you and your family, or at least there can be. I met so may fantastic people, and they were so kind and good to me. People offered to let me stay in their homes when I was on the road a distance from my home. They fed me, helped me, encouraged me, and were just amazing. If you get the chance to run, consider it very carefully, and once you commit, then go whole hog. It's the experience of a lifetime in many ways. It will change you forever.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
You might well have cell service over there, albeit the roaming charges might be high. Who are you with? It could come in mighty handy. There is a lot of info on this online, or you can rent a GSM phone short term over there. Handy if the two of you want to separate in a market or somewhere. Janet uses it to find me as I have a tendency to wander away when we are shopping or running errands.

a travel umbrella.
BINGO! You are the first one to find something I did NOT have on my list.

You get a cookie.

(See, this is actually a serious and productive thread.)
No way! you should never take an umbrella on a vacation. Bad luck. It might rain if you do. You're not going on holiday to get rained on, are you?

Ok, maybe that's just me. :hat:
Really?

I thought it worked the opposite way.

ie. You are waiting for an important phone call, but you also need to run an errand. If you leave for the errand, you'll miss the call. If you wait around, the call won't come.
Riley, I'm with you on this one. I consider it like an insurance policy. If I have it, I won't need it. I'll haul that silly umbrella all over Bavaria and Austria, and probably never need to use it. But if I don't bring it .............

And rain is in the forecast for there next week.

^_^ I was just being silly. It's my personal attitude. I live in a place where umbrellas are always at the ready, because it could rain just about anytime here. So when I pay big bucks to travel elsewhere, I want something different. No rain. So I just refuse to contemplate such a thing, and never pack an umbrella. :hat:
Besides, in my limited travels, I usually just have a carry on bag, and we all know umbrellas are deadly weapons so couldn't bring one anyhows. :)

Janet wants to know if you want yours in pink or blue, Mik. :hat:

Hubby says our phones won't work in Germany, but they're still handy to have along here on the US side. And then there's the possibility that it will work for me in Germany, just not for him. He hates it when that happens.
"Well, how did YOU get it to work?"
"I don't know. It just does." :D
I know I shouldn't laugh at times like that, but I can't help it.

We're going at a time when the weather won't be great, but that's the breaks. The good news is WE'RE GOING!! This is my first time there.

What's funny is that it will be all or nothing. Either I'll never need the darn thing, or else all three of us will be trying to huddle underneath it. I'm only bringing one, cuz daughter has a hooded jacket. If it gets really bad, we can buy another one there. The one I'm bringing folds up nice and small. I can put it in an outside pocket of my suitcase. And if it brings out the sun .............. WOOO HOOOO!!

The last time I went to Europe I just took travel size containers of toothpaste, etc. I planned on using whatever soap/shampoo the hotels had, and bought whatever I needed elsewhere. I really got a kick out of trying new stuff, not using the same old same old. Discovered the best toothpaste I've ever used (not sweet!), and a really great skin lotion.
