What is that Frank? I saw a picture of a gun and just felt sad and a bit sick. It's a funny thing when it's not part of your culture I guess. I imagine it would be like the feeling you'd get looking at a picture of a guillotine or instrument of extreme torture. So different! |

Well, a gun is a tool, Whacki. There is nothing inherently bad or evil in it. It is intention that makes it so. I am looking at doing long, cross-country journeys on the motorcycle. I'll be alone, and I have no idea if I'll end up someplace where someone's trying to rob me or steal my bike, or if I'm facing down some animal that's intent on having me for its next meal. Hopefully, I never have to draw it from its holster, but if I do, it will be because it's the last resort, and if I don't protect myself, it's a likely chance of losing life or limb. A simple picture of a gun shouldn't make you feel sad or sick. It seems kind of an automatic reaction... There are many different kinds of guns, and different levels of craftsmanship and ability that go into their manufacture and fitment. Then there is the fascinating science of the ballistics, themselves. Then there is the specific field of medicine that deals with ballistic injuries. Truth be told, I'd be happier if guns had never been invented, and everyone still swaggered about with rapiers, cutlasses, and scimitars on their belts. ![]() |

Yeah, I know how you reframe the context......it's just weird how different the perspective can be, and where the warp can lead. |

True... Truth be told, I could probably defend myself just as well with a tyre iron as I could, with a gun. A gun is the most efficient tool for the job, though. (Especially since most of the bad guys have 'em.) |

That's the thing I think, it just seems less outrageous when the stakes are level. Here in dozy England an acerbic tongue is usually enough of a tool to fight of most would be ne'erdowells. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

Well, in England that would make you one BAD M**********R!

It's like when you see pictures of armed children in war torn africa........you just balk at the idea of having to think that a child would need to be comfortable with this to survive. Luckily i'll never need that kind of destructive force to live a comfortable loving life. Those children would probably think nothing of using a machete on their family either, that's what I meant by the perception becoming warped when the stakes are raised so tragically high. |
