HOLY CARP!!!
Better think twice before tossing that cigarette into the toilet bowl.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

A house was destroyed in my township here in Pennsylvania by that cause a number of years ago. It appeared that the gas had been infiltrating the well unnoticed until one day a faucet wasn't tightly closed allowing the gas to escape along with the dripping water. When the homeowner came home that evening and threw the light switch at the back door, he was thrown into the back yard by the explosion and the house was destroyed.

As natural gas that leaks into wells from the ground has not been treated with the oderant that makes gas leaks smell, there is essentially no warning that this problem can exist unless expensive flammable gas detectors are used.

Oh really? I was under the impression that the oderant is added prior to putting the gas into the pipes?

That's the problem. The natural gas in these cases leaks directly from the ground into a well that was intended to supply water and becomes entrained with the water delivered to the house. It's not gas that has been in a pipeline. It escapes into the house as the water is released from faucets and appliances. A washing machine is a very dangerous source because it often operates unattended and has sources of ignition both within and, oftentimes, near it. However, if your house is going to blow up anyhow, it's preferable that it be unattended at the time.

Also, the oderant is added at local distribution points. High pressure transmission gas does not normally contain the oderant.

Down in Fayette and Western Westmoreland County, there is alot of natural gas in the ground. Alot of people have been installing natural gas wells in their yards for Columbia Gas (I think it's them).

I'm kind of surprised it's not a bigger problem. Is there anykind of regular test you could connect to the well?

You can buy natural gas and propane (combustible gas) detectors that work something like a smoke detector and can be installed in areas like basements where gas can most likely acccumulate. One market for these is among the elderly and other people who have impaired sensitivity to odors. I don't know if there is anything that could be installed in the air space at the well cap to detect the gas before it entered the house.

Dishwashers have been known to explode due to a build up of hydrogen when they are left unused for a long time.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D
