HOLY CARP!!!
As effective a rhetorical flourish it is to compare public recognition of Medal of Honor winners with American Idol winners, I think it's very likely that most MoH winners don't want any fame and notoriety. No harm no foul.

Not to mention that nobody can name any recent scientist who made an important discovery, etc. It's all cool to glorify people who display courage on the field of battle, but that's mostly an antiquated meme that has little to do with what actually matters these days.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

There are some things deserving prominent mention on every US newspaper's front page, each & every year. People need to be educated of it.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention, Jolly.

I could name one, but from WW II, not since. I had his name in mind because I recently read his book on the wartime missions of the submarine under his command.

Well in order to redress the balance, I for one would be more than happy to see American Idol winners liberally sprayed with heavy machine-gun fire.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

I was glad to see this...

Obama stops at Arlington National Cemetery

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama made an unannounced stop at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday to pay respects to recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award.

Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. He was joined by several living recipients of the medal, which was first awarded during the Civil War.

March 25 of each year is National Medal of Honor Day.

The president visited the cemetery after meeting privately with Senate Democrats on Capitol Hill.

In a statement later Wednesday, Obama said Medal of Honor recipients are the "foremost example of greatness in service and sacrifice."

"Their bravery and humble strength continues to reassure our nation of the strength of its character and ideals even in these difficult times," the president said. "We owe these heroes a debt of gratitude that our nation can never fully repay."

"We must never forget their sacrifice and will always keep the fallen and their families in our thoughts and prayers," he said.

Singing to the enemy to break their resolve would work too.

(Kudos to B.O. for the stop at Arlington).
The Tomb of the Unknowns is the most humbling place I've been to.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D
