Thanks, JB. That's what I mean: Bersa is on the order of Walther, but for considerably less money. It fits my hand really nice. (A lot nicer than the Glock. No matter what I do, I can't get comfortable with the Glock and I'll probably end up getting rid of it.)

During a conversation I was having yesterday, I learned our state police are giving up their beloved Sig 45's for Glocks in 40 S&W.

They hate the swap, but Glock made too tempting an offer. For the cost of 600 Sigs, they are getting 1100 Glocks.

Already had the first shooting with one of the new Glocks...first round in the right upper chest of a perp didn't even faze him...

I would probably be the one who ended up tied to a chair with a ball gag.
(That's usually me   )

How much did that cost, if you don't mind me asking, Frank? As i was telling you, I was looking to get a licence for a gun just to use at a shooting range. It's probably going to be a shotgun or a rifle licence that i'll get (to use for bird shooting aswell) and was wondering how much it's going to cost.

Any favourites on shotguns?

Whachya want to spend, and what do you want to do with it?

For semi-autos...Not too many years ago, Beretta bought out Benelli, Franchi and Stoeger. Now, the Benelli Inertia Action (think Black Eagle) is offered throughout the line in certain shotguns. Stoeger is the cheapest, because the gun is made in Turkey. Beretta and Benelli are on the more expensive end. The Franchi is my favorite, considering what you get for your money...not the 48AL (although I REALLY like that firearm, but it will kick the p*ss out of you), but the Franchi with the Benelli action.

Around here, the Stoeger starts at about $400, and we go up...a Benelli is about 1400 bucks.

If you are not allowed to own a semi-auto, but like pumps, think either Browning BPS or Remington 870 Wingmaster. Both are fine weapons, but I think the 870 is livelier between the hands.

If it's a double, I think Italian offers the best combination of fit, finish and value, although you can find some nice Spanish doubles. If thinking used double, you may run across a nice Merkel (German) or a Browning Citori (Japanese) or Superposed (Belgian). The British are known for making decent doubles, so you may find a good used one close to home.

Or heck, let's just shoot the moon and get a "bespoke" shotgun. The finest doubles in the world are made in England.

Here's who I think makes them...just a jog down to London-town:

55,000 pounds ought to do it...

I don't know why police would carry anything less than a .45. The .45 has been a standard among police and military the world over, for many many years. There is a reason for that. The US military, in one of the biggest mistakes ever, has phased out the beloved Colt M1911A1 .45 in favor of the Beretta 9mm.

Spec Ops Command has basically told the Pentagon to stick the 9mm up their collective asses. SEAL teams, Marine Recondo, and the Special Forces are all carrying the Glock .45 or the Colt .45.

The Colt M1911A1 .45 is still fetching a very decent price on the open market, generally running around $700-$900.

HOLY CARP!!!
I don't want anything too pricey - i've never shot before but it's something i'm taking up. I don't want to spend alot until i'm a little more proficient. Probably looking around the 2-300 pound mark. I want a gun that i'll be able to use at a range to practice, then when i'm better, take it out with Neils dad in Berwick where he's going to teach me how to follow and hit moving targets (birds, rabbits, anything smallish). I would just basically like to know how to handle and use a gun.

Used, 20 gauge, 3 inch chambers (if possible), O/U configuration, Browning Citori. Lightning model, if possible.

Barring that, look for a used SKB.

You can buy this gun, new, for a bump over a grand in the U.S.:

Nice one, Jolly. I like the over/under, too.
