I was wondering if the 'gear' was going with you. :) You'll be surprised... knitting needles are allowed on at least some airlines. Jet Blue allows them. This I know because I researched it and carried mine on when I flew to LA a few years ago.

I have really been enjoying the Puritan, it's so easy to get the canvas on and off. The little rug is coming very well... just one night (or two) to finish the pattern and then it'll be all background (there isn't that much of it).

Bon voyage!

Glad you are enjoying the Puritan, Bernard! I thought you would. It's esay to use and really a great mid-size frame. It's also well built and sturdy, something I've grown to appreciate even more over time.

To everyone, last call for trip ideas! Post them today (Saturday) or Sunday. The dining table is strewn with travel books and we are poring over them.

Yes, browse through some travel guide books concerning the three countries. If you see something that strikes your fancy, then mark it as being either a must-see or a nice-to-see-if-time-permits. Definately take in one castle on your trip.

Are you renting a car? Check the driver's licensing requirements for each of the three countries. It's been a few years since I last visited Germany and the driver's licensing situation may have changed. I wouldn't want to tell you something that's now outdated. You may or may not need an International Driver's License. Obtain one at a AAA if need be. You might have to take a written exam. You can be sure that the exam will be a lot harder than your state's. Know the European traffic signage. Check with the car rental agency on the availability of automatics versus manuals. Manuals might outnumber automatics.

Vacation time is too valuable to waste doing mundane things that you can easily do at home. So forget knitting. Enjoy your trip.

If you rent a car, rent a Diesel car, if possible. They are much cheaper, fuel-wise.

I don't know how to knit, so it won't be hard to forget it. :D

Right this minute I'm in my leather chair in my living room in Minnesooooota. :D

We fly out later today. So there's time yet for you to warn the natives that we are on our way.
