Has anyone read the entire series? I must admit that I'd never heard of it until the first movie, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe came out. I watched Prince Caspian last weekend. I was impressed with TLTWTW and even more so with PC. Not being an avid reader and unfamiliar with C. S. Lewis, I did a little research on the net about him. I got so excited I ordered the series from Amazon. I have a very small library but I'm kind of a snob about the appearance of the books I keep in it. Most of them are vintage books my late mother had and I kept them because they looked interesting enough to read and they looked nice on the bookshelves (told ya' I'm a snob ). I scoured the internet looking for either first editions (ha!) or reprints in classy hardcover, preferably leather. I was hitting a big, fat zero till the light bulb went on. Duh! They were written as children's books. Of course they won't be leather bound. Anyway, I found a set through Amazon that appeared to be the most fetching so I ordered them. They just came today and I must say I'm not unhappy. They're jacketed, heavy cardboard and aren't ugly. The only thing I don't like is that the jackets and book spines are numbered. I learned that the books were not published in the order Lewis wrote them but rather in Narnia chronological order. I'm assuming it's like the Star Wars movie prequels. I plan to read them in the order Lewis wrote them. I think reading them as they were published would take away some of the mystery and I don't want to know too much, too soon. I'm currently reading a Gone with the Wind knock-off. I have to finish that before I'll start on The Chronicles of Narnia. The seven Lewis books should give me some pleasant reading this summer on Sunday afternoons lounging on the front porch. |

I read the entire series back when I was in university. I enjoyed it, but I haven't read it a second time (and I willingly read books more than once). But it's worth a read. |

It's on the Luke bedtime reading list. I haven't read them in a while, but they are written in a nice story teller mode. There are certain works just meant to be read aloud, and Narnia is definitely one. |

I think they're the greatest children's fiction ever written. I've read every single one over ten times, and, although most of the reads were during childhood, I still read them occasionally. There was a study released recently that theorized Lewis was working through the medieval astronomical calendar, a different planet for each book. Fascinating stuff. Enjoy your reads, PattyP! |

That's interesting, LD. I've often thought I'd enjoy recording audio books. One of my fantasies is to be a voice, preferably singing, for an animated character; not a full-time gig, just a once-in-a-lifetime fantasy. |
