I Owe It All To John D'Oh

I was very clear about the point I was making. If you approach things with a preconception that causes you to assume that I mean something other than what I said, that's not my problem. You are, of course, free to draw other lessons, or other facts, from those same stories. But I posted them for a specific reason, and they supported that specific point that I was making. |

The story of illegal immigration comes around, goes around and will be around for some time I suspect. But I do not understand at all how a country like the U.S. which is founded on the principals of law tolerates illegal immigration at all. <- period No matter how much I may feel for illegal immigrants, to my mind they are breaking the law, and for a nation of laws such as ours to tolerate such blatant lawlessness flies in the face of everything I ever learned about this country of ours. I wouldn't care if illegal immigrants were causing surpluses galore -- to my mind it would still be an illegal activity. Why is this subject so convoluted? It seems perfectly simple. Hello? |

That's my point of view, too. I also think a Constitutional change needs to be made so that children of illegals who are born here do not automatically receive citizenship and the associated benefits. Two hundred years ago, it was necessary that persons who were born here automatically became citizens. Now, not so much. |

I didn't ridicule him for that reason, Mark. For other reasons. |

Up here in Chicago, it's not unusual to have illegals come to have their babies delivered (free, of course), and then to return to Mexico. When the kids get older, they are citizens, of course, with all the rights. I can only imagine the situation in places like San Antonio, San Diego, etc. Of course no politician would have the stones to propose a change like that - and alienate (at least) 10% of your constituency. |

That's actually not as bad as raising them here. When they are older, at least then they are tax-paying, job-seeking adults. When they are kids, they are a net drain on social services, and don't yet add anything productive to the economy. |

Wrong conclusion. The truth is that illegals are still sending everything they earn down to Mexico - with the economy gone south there just isn't as many jobs for them (construction is dead). A lot of them have gone back south to their homes. |
