Top Ten Deadliest Stretches of Road in America

Eight of the 10 worst patches of interstate are in California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas, with the other two being in Florida.

Jeffrey, none are in NY.

I'd like to know a bit more about the methodology, because rates per mile travelled are probably more indicative of safety, but it's interesting nonetheless how they're concentrated in the sunbelt.

Overall fatalities and rates by state over recent years can be found here: Fatalities and fatality rates - state by state

I am so ridiculously surprised that Rt. 1 in New Jersey is not on that list.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

But seriously, shouldn't that be a "death per mile" stat to make sense? 1-10 through Maricopa county is about 100 miles, and through Pinal County is about 65 miles.

I'd actually do deaths per traveler per mile.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Sure, but those stats would be approximations. We *know* the death count and the length of roads.

True enough. But I think that the traffic density's a significant enough factor to allow for approximations. A road that gets only 10 deaths a year for example, is pretty darn dangerous if it only services 10 cars in that year.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

There's a limit to how much research I can expect Fox News to do, though.

I'll include MS in my prayer for travelers.

I drove through major stretches of the top 4 on the list when I did my roundtrip to Phoenix on my scooter.

I tell people, I rode through bugs (San Joaquin valley), dense coastal fog in the dark (Santa Barbara/Ventura), hot windy desert (Palm Springs to Phoenix), and freakin sideways rain (Tehachipe pass).
But the most nervous riding of all of them was when I had to go through the LA basin on a Saturday morning and ride with major traffic. There's nothing wrong with any of these Interstates, the roads are wide and mostly straight, it's just the mass of idiocy out there that makes it dangerous.

Anyways, don't think I'll ever do that again.
