Top o the mornin to you Tom. I'm sitting here kind of teary eyed. JF just took Puffin to the bus station for her first solo trip. She's meeting up with one camp friend in Boston and then going on to New Joisey on an Amtrak train to meet up with a 2nd one where until Thursday. My little girl is slipping away from me.
Not good kathy.

I know what you are saying. my wife and I were on a vacation w/o kids with some friends (the inlaws took care of them) and from the third day we kept looking at each other just saying, "we're stupid" to each other. We didn't want to be on vacation. We just wanted our babies.

Never let them go!

I'm sure Puffin will be fine, but Thursday is a lifetime away. :(
Awww you softie Tom!

Mine are getting to the age where I miss them like crazy, but then five minutes after they're back in the door...I wonder to myself........ Why...exactly did I miss them.??

I think every stage of life between parents and sons and daughters is special. Sometimes, you can have a stronger relationship as adults than you ever had when younger, its different for everyone I guess.

I am a softie. In real life I'm just a old sweetie, unlike here on the TNCR where I'm a man of concrete and steel.

My oldest a freshman in HS--and she just got a (BS introduction) letter from Rensselaer Polytech which is in the boondocks of Troy, NY and my wife and I were saying t each other--"that schools no good, WE don't want to live there."

I don't want her to go to college.

That's how Janet and I feel. We'll have plenty of years to go by ourselves. These years are so very precious.

But I see what an incredible young woman Lauren is turning out to be, too. She'll be well equipped to take on the world. And that has its rewards as well.

That too! Anna Freud once said that the adolescence bears all of the markers of a major psychiatric disorder. I think there's an evolutionary reason for that. It's to help us parents let go.

One of my two wants to go to sleepaway camp for a couple of weeks this summer.

I'm going to let her go, but I'm not sure whether she's old enough, or ready. I KNOW I'm not old enough, or ready, for her to go.

So we had a nice conversation about how she gets to leave home when she's ready, and I'll miss her, but I want her to be able to do what she wants to do.

It's a big responsibility having a thread named for you like this.

My only daughter is a sophomore in college so we've had the empty nest for about a year and a half.

I had 25 seasons coaching softball/soccer/basketball - sounds like a long time, but now it seems like about 5 minutes.

I don't mind keep the thread alive forever as long as it doesn't become a groupist thing.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Twin girls (fraternal). Couldn't be more different. They'll be 11 in March.

Quirt, Puffin was 10 when she first went to sleep-away camp. The first year was for 2 weeks, and the next two for a month. The funny thing is the camp is only a 15 minute drive from our house, but we pretended she was in another state. She was the only local kid - about 15% were from other countries and the rest primarily from Mass, NYC and the burbs and Connecticut. The other funny thing is that nearly all of the non-foreign kids are Jewish - not sure how or why that is, because it isn't marketed that way. After her first year, she loooooved it and dreams about it the rest of the year. She's not going this summer because she's doing a Student Amabassdor program in Europe, so this is the antidote to her having to miss her camp friends this summer.

As a courtesy I thought I should let you know that you've been on my ignore list since the feature was available.

By all means post whatever you like about me to make me look bad.
I will not address it.
Knock yourselves out.

But if you address me and I don't respond it is because I never see what you write.

Peace.

I had the temerity to point out the objections some have to rampant promiscuity and degrading anonymous sex among male homosexuals, and how that will affect acceptance of gay life and gay marriage.

Which is odd, because I've said it here as well.
