I Owe It All To John D'Oh
That the Republicans made this guy fly back, FROM HIS MOTHER'S FUNERAL, to vote on the stimulus bill.

Didn't even one of them have enough human decency to realize that they were going to lose anyway, and so it wasn't really necessary to force him to leave his family to come back to vote?

Oh, and his vote wasn't needed to pass the bill. His vote was only needed TO ENSURE THEY COULDN'T FILIBUSTER IT.

Shame on all of them.

You would think Reid could have called McConnell and worked something out.

No, Jon, it was more important to them to try to score public relations points.

They have about the same amount of human sentiment as a pile of bricks.

Well, I'd want to hear that Reid called McConnell to explain and that McConnell refused before jumping to that conclusion.

But if that did happen, then I would agree wholeheartedly with your conclusion.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

It's not clear from the article that the EVIL REPUBLICANS made him fly back. Maybe it was the EVIL DICK DURBIN that did it.

Pretty partisan opinion considering facts not in evidence.

Now, if a senator had come back for a Republican victory the headline would have been 'GOP misuses government aircraft for personal travel'.

Someone evil, I'm sure.

Well, let's see. Who have we heard recently publicly urging this bill be passed right away?

Oh, yeah. Him.

No, his vote was needed to be cast out of respect for his mother, a lifelong civil right advocate. She would have slapped him silly from the grave had he missed it.

At least Sherrod attended his mothers memorial service. I recall a certain person running for president that did not attend his grandmothers funeral (who actually raised said candidate), whose unfortunate death came at a most inconvenient time for him.

If Obama had insisted on sticking to his word instead of proving once again that he is a lying sack of sh!t, he would have demanded they give them all 5 days to read and study the bill like he said he would do on all bills.

But then, he said he wouldn't hire any lobbyists either... oh - and he said he'd run the most transparent administration in history too..... oh - and he said...

well, you get the picture. He's a liar who tells people what they want to hear and does something else. Did you know that some in Europe have already begun discussing his "failed presidency"?

Actually, if *any* of the democrats - just ONE of them, had shown any backbone, any *hint* of leadership ability, a single shred of patriotism, he would have voted NO on this abomination. But the president's name is obama, so you can look forward to quite a few "obamanations" for the next 2 years.

That *is* going to be the extent of his administration, you know..

If it does not improve 2010 will make 1994 look mild. And quite possibly led by the same guy.

Well, he and the Democrats just bet the farm on this bill. And I can tell you if the economy has not demonstrably improved, meaning showing up in the everyday lives of voters as opposed to 'key indicators', by November 2010, the voters will gut the Dems like a fat hog.

I personally do not see how a bill so large and so hastily crafted can help but show badly in the press. Whatever successes there are will probably go unnoticed and the many boondoggles will be front page.

They needed him to overcome the filibuster.

Who was threatening a filibuster, exactly?

See, I expect the opposite to happen. The media is in love with him, so I expect to see every tiny little thing that can be spun positive to be plastered all over the news, and every failure to be ignored until it become so obvious they have no choice but to mention it - on page 13...

I'll quote that prediction, too, although I think that one is more grounded in reality.

These would be the same voters that want Stuart Smalley representing them? :D

Did he not promise that he would not accept lobbyists for positions in his administration? How many has he hired so far?

Did he not promise to be the most transparent administration in history? Are the media not calling his administration the most secretive in history?

Did he not promise that every bill would be made available for no less than 5 working days before it was voted on? Did they not just ram this one through in one day?

I gather you don't have a problem with having the biggest socialist shift in our history rammed down our throats in the middle of the night?

There should have been more than a filibuster. There should have been a unified NO vote by everyone regardless of party. But once again, the only ones with the guts to stand up for the will of the people were the Republicans.

The thing is, the economy is going to begin picking up again in the late spring/early summer anyway, and would have even if this bill had been voted down. This bill has nothing much to stimulate the economy in it. The first round of throwing money didn't do anything except waste the money. All this bill is going to do is after the economy works its own problems out and starts improving on its own, the bill will leave us with a debt that we will never be able to repay.

What gets me is how some democrats here used to piss and moan about how they objected to Bush because of the "debt he was leaving our children" - but now that we've got a president who in less than 3 weeks has left a debt out great great great great grandchildren will still be paying off,

not a peep.

I would not have voted for this monstrosity if they had to pull him from his mother's death bed.

This is really amazing. This steaming pile of crap was ramrodded through with no Republican involvement and legislators given only hours to read a 1,000 page bill and it is the Republicans who are the assholes of creation because a guy had to leave his mother's funeral so they could do it. You guys are amazing. What chutzpah.
