How about YOU LIVED TO TELL ABOUT IT?!?!?!

Is $5,000 for US Airways Fliers Enough?
By Gary Stoller, USA Today

(Jan. 27) -- Many US Airways passengers who endured a crash landing in the Hudson River 12 days ago say they appreciate the $5,000 that the airline has offered — but some say it's not enough.

Joe Hart, a salesman from Charlotte who suffered a bloody nose and bruises, says he "would like to be made whole for the incident."

Some people's greed and cupidity never ceases to astonish me. They can each probably sell their stories in one form or another for many thousands, and they want more. An event over which USAir had no control (only Alfred Hitchcock could have controlled the birds) puts those passengers in an almost surely deadly situation. The skill of a USAir pilot averts catastrophe and leaves them whole, and they want more.

Our heroic pilot should have had them sign releases before he saved their pathetic hides.

It's sad. But not unexpected. Until things like this go to trial and juries put their foot down and say no, it won't stop. But juries aren't going to put their foot down because most of them believe that one day something *could* happen to them. And they don't want to shut down the settlement gravy train.
Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

I heard the $5K was just an act of kindness for lost luggage. I didn't read that it included signing off on future settlements.

Its the new American dream. Its no longer the opportunity to work hard and make something of oneself. Its now finding an opportunity to get rich quick thru no virtue of your own. Whether its winning the lotto, being at the right company when it goes IPO, cashing in on your 15 minutes on reality TV, or finding someone you can sue for millions.

In the last three decades this country has become so litigious that I'm surprised it took this long for some of those people to step forward and demand compensation. We (the country) created this monster - more should be done to bring about tort reform and sanctions against lawyers who file some of the more outrageous lawsuits. Until that happens, this type of thing is more the norm than not and shouldn't surprise any of us.
