It's snowing outside. Not a light dusting either. Doesn't look like I'll be working for a few days.

Oh, so that's where it all went. We had dire predictions of at least 10 cm. Got a mere dusting and I think it's all over. At least this light dusting covered some of the black muck on the remaining icebergs at the end of my driveway.

I just finished shovelling. The work was satisfying -- snow here is like powdered sugar and just a few inches deep.

Well, the light dusting we had this morning covered the patch of ice I slipped on in the shop's parking lot. Whoops!

Oh yeah, it's coming down now. Brrr

Nothing now, but I'm going to check the forecast for tonight. I'm thinkin' that there is a good chance school will be cancelled tomorrow.

Edit -- 2 - 4 expected tonight with another 1-3 tomorrow.

That means we'll get none or 12 inches.

It was 20 below zero this morning...we've got around 100 inches of snow at 9,000 feet, and here in town at 6300 ft we've got 2 or 3 feet on the ground, more where it's been plowed into banks. I'm sick of shovelling and the sound of the plow at 4:00 am is always a foreshadowing of hard work removing the berm that gets plowed in front of my driveway. Winter is here in all of its seriousness and long dark cold eternity.

Classes cancelled for me today due to ice storm! W00t! I love going to college, but a surprise vacation day should never be scorned. . .
We're all mad here!

Wow, Free Rider. The rest of us are wimps. You win.

I was all proud of myself for my shovelling -- if you don't stay on top of it, the job becomes nearly impossible. I beat all of my neighbors, too.

Now I'm feeling like I should shut up and sit down. ; )

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Not at all, R2. I'd bet FR has a snowblower and a 4-wheel drive.

Uh oh. I spoke too soon. It's coming down now, seriously. Big fat white flakes.

R2 I didn't make you want to feel like a wimp...I've been gone from TNCR except for a little lurking here and there...part of the reason is the stupid shovelling! I dread the long cold winters. If it makes you feel better my nieghbor shovells his driveway 3 or 4 times a day..he uses a push shovel and literally runs from side to side. His driveway looks like it is heated...not a speck of snow and dry as a bone. Since it is always dark when I get up in the morning I can see him running back and forth illuminated by his garage floodlights...at 6:00 am. Whoa.

I *am* proud of my work -- just me and a shovel.

My neighbor hires a guy with a plow. I am always psyched when I get my sidewalk done before her hired help gets hers done.

You mean one of these gizmos, FR? My girlfriend was using one the other day when I dropped my son off at her house. I had a little envy. Do they work well?

No...just a regular shovel except that the blade is only 8-10" high at a straight angle instead of the scoop-type shovels that are designed to lift and move rather than just push. They are great for 2" snowfall and my neighbor makes damn sure it never gets higher than that! Can you imagine...darkness..freezing temps with snow and wind...and this guy gets out at 6:00 am and RUNS back and forth pushing his shovel? He is the polar opposite of me (no pun intended) I tend to moan and groan the poor pitiful me song before, during, and after any shovelling event.

That's what you're supposed to do. An important part of the ritual. Your neighbour is nuts. :)

ZOOOOOM!
I will never cease to be amazed at just how thoroughly batsh!t people go around here at the first sight of flakes.

There's about a half inch of accumulation on the ground here. This morning it was all fairly dry and the roads were by no means icy or even damp.

During my walk to the metro each morning, I walk about 2 blocks on a path that goes in between two housing developments.

Along my walk, I saw: a car bounce off a curb after making its turn way too shallow; a guy driving what appeared to be 12 miles an hour in a 45, and a van that treated both lanes of traffic as his own personal luxury course, weaving across the dotted line like some drunk during his late night stumble home. All this during a 6-minute walk from my apartment to the metro station.

What in the hell is the matter with these people?
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Your neighbor is insane.

Definitely.
After a major frog-strangler of a rainstorm, I heard a strange humming sound from outside. Sure enough, my neighbor is out there mowing his grass.

(And this year, if he cranks up that f'ing lawnmower at 7:00 on a Saturday morning, I'm going to go upstairs, open all the windows, and blast Iron Maiden's, "Number Of The Beast" on the stereo.)

:mad2:
