HOLY CARP!!!

I know the tradition is flowers for women. My piano teacher is performing a concerto (Rachmaninoff No. 2) on Saturday night with a local orchestra. I plan to attend. He's also a friend--we have coffee and get together for lunch occasionally. Should I just give him a hug and a high-five or a fist pump after the performance? Some licorice? What? |

Talk about a provocative title! ![]() Seriously, flowers. That's what I always see being given. |

yep...flowers are for performers, not women. Get him something cool...a Bird of Paradise with some snazzy wild colored Gerber daisies. Big and bold doesn't read as feminine (but you can get me big, bold flowers anytime!) |

Flowers. Yes. I see them given to male performers all the time. |

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

It's unanimous, then. Don't send my sons to Walrdoff high school and give the piano teacher flowers after his concerto. I'm so excited I can barely stand it. |

ooo...R2...I like the cutting of the greenery in these little bouquets...it's very architectural looking...Art Deco even. The big interesting tropical flowers are very cool and most of them last a long time after they're cut:![]() |

Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism. We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

You all never fail. Good advice mixed with snarky comments. Deb, I do like those flowers. Thanks for the guidance. A follow-up questions -- are the flowers always given at the performance, or are they ever delivered to someone's house the next day? I have to imagine he'll go out for a drink or whatever after the show and the flowers might suffer. |

Flowers delivered to dressing room before performance, or handed to performer afterward. Next day looks like you forgot. They will be okay...they have to look better than the ones that get thrown at the stage during opera curtain calls |

I have often wondered what happens to the flowers given to the performers after the concert. I mean, usually they sleep in a hotel (where they probably do not even have a vase), and next day the often travel to their next destination. |

Times when I've been given flowers but had to travel, I've given them to someone in or around the hotel or venue that looks like they could use some cheering up.

Yeah, I've always thought that too, Klaus. They probably give them away to a cute stage hand. Thanks, Deb. I'll get some tough-guy flowers and bring them to the performance. I'll get those little water thingies on the stems to keep them fresh. |

The point isn't the destiny of flowers...it's to honor the performer's performance. If I was performing a run of shows, I usually left flowers in the vase in my dressing room. If it was just one performance or a last performance, I would love them for a couple hours and leave them for the theatre or hotel folks to enjoy. If you are performing in your home town, flowers do fine for hours in a cold car, especially if they have the little water flasks on the stems or are in a vase (only send flowers in vase to the dressing room...if you are handing them off after the performance, just one or two stems and some greenery, not an enormous bouquet, and have the florist stick the water dealies on the bottom....the performer will thank you graciously, will juggle your flowers with his bag and coat, and lay them gently in the seat of the car and possibly remember to take them in the house after he gets home. Depends on how late he is and how many drinks. |
