Apple, how common was credit card ownership/usage at that time?

I'm wondering how many people's situations described here would have been a little different if they had a credit card (if they hadn't already at the time). I know a lot of my friends couldn't pay their bills on time if they couldn't charge it. Sometimes the bill comes before the paycheck, and credit helps with that lapse.
I was in college from '74-8. I went to school with LOTS of rich kids and as far as I know, no one had credit cards. Rather, they had checking accounts. They'd call their parents and ask them to make a deposit.

Yeah, I think credit cards with college kids is probably a more recent phenomenon from the late 90's or so.

Mmmmmmm, pie!
I grew up poor. We always had a roof over our head and food to eat, but we were still poor. The minute I was old enough to start earning money myself, I put a stop to that.

I went to college in 86, and that year Amex offered me a charge card, which I took. It was not revolving, you had to pay it off each month. Credit cards for college students were just starting then.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Yes. i was the same years as Apple, and no one had a credit card. It wasn't until 78 or so that there was an ATM.
