We ended up seeing this on a whim in Paris. It was much better than I had expected. Kate Winslow in particular did a fantastic job. Did anyone see this? |

The one with Leo DiCaprio? No. I probably won't see it in a theater, unless my wife really wants to go. The dialogue in the previews seemed a bit anachronistic (too modern). Can you give a quick review? |

I love Kate Winslet (though I prefer her with darker hair, and with a bit more weight on her than I've seen lately). Back when Titanic came out, it was refreshing to see guys drooling over a girl who actually looked like she had a normal body. I can do without Leo though. I may see it at some point - it's not what I typically watch in the theatre and I assumed it would be too chick-flicky for my tastes, but your recommendation makes me think I may have misjudged. |

Dol, it's by the same director as American Beauty, which is what led me to think it might be a little more interesting than it appears. |

I saw it in, as they say, VO. In this case English w/ French subtitles. |

Its more complex than the trailer made it out to be. Curiously, there's a scene in the trailer that isn't in the movie. At least the version they are showing in France. |

Thanks, jon! I can't stand when they do English voiceovers for foreign language films here...was curious what the standard procedure was elsewhere, where many major films would be in another language. |

I think it depends on the country. In Germany for example, (Klaus can correct me if I'm wrong) dubbing is very common. In France and in the parts of Latin America I've lived, dubbing is usually only done for kids films, adults prefer subtitles. |

In Japan, movies are usually shown in English with Japanese subtitles. It's fun though, to be channel-surfing late night TV and come across a movie where they've dubbed the characters to speak Japanese. I watched "True Lies" like that one night, and laughed until my ribs hurt.
