this will be fun.

we expect tons of before and after pics (preferably nude for the boys)
Well, apple, I don't know if there will be boys getting haircuts there the same day, and if they are nude, I won't have the guts to take their pics anyway.

(Sorry, that was naughty of me!) :lol2:

Kincaid, thank you for trying. I am so out of my element trying to pick a hairstyle from pics. But I want you to know I went out to to the site and looked at all of the long hair pics, which is the length I will still have even after the cut.

WOW! That's short hair. Maybe I will go that short some day, but I'm not there yet.

You sure are a nice guy to try to help me. :)

And you're brave, too. The other guys look like wimps now compared to you. :lol2:

Brenda, I used to have long hair too (waist length). I now have the cropped-short-rub-some-paste-in-it-and-go cut that Dol mentioned. It took me several years to go from there to here but the key is finding a fabulous stylist. I've been with my gal for years and she knows me better than I do.

It's not easy to find one of the great ones. Try to notice peoples cuts when you're out and about. When you see one that you like or looks really fab ask them about it and their stylist. Recommendations are usually right on.

Good luck and we'll want pictures!

FWIW, I think you should go really short (at least work your way toward it until you get there some day). I guess it really depends on how curly your hair gets. You want to look like a babe, not a doll. Of course, if you wear it really short - you'll have to put up with the odd lesbian here and there hitting on you.

Yes! I think that is in the right direction.

I need something that's professional, easy upkeep (wash and go), and still lets me be in my 40s for a few years yet. (I'm pushing 50, not pulling it. :lol2: )

I've seen some really great pics in the past of styles specifically intended for gray and white hair on younger women. I may have kept that brochure. I'll check later. The styles were really very cool. They even showed some great long hair styles for white or gray.

I think it was titled "Gray is the new blonde" or something like that.

I love it! :lol2: Gray is the new blonde!

I should look for something like that brochure; I'd like to see some cool ideas for gray/white hair, for those of us headed that way, but not wanting to look old before our time. :hat:

brenda - FYI Aqua HAS posted a picture before (or maybe 89th posted it "for" him) and he is tres cute.

Of course, it's possible that me making inappropriate comments about his pictures is the reason he's so reluctant to post one now...

I've had super-short hair for so long now that I'm probably a bit too encouraging when people talk about cutting theirs. But no matter what the length, my thoughts on finding a really good stylist for the initial cut still stands - as does listening to them when they suggest a product. IF they're a really good stylist, they'll make a good suggestion. I'm lucky that I found a stylist who is amazing (the only stylist I've ever had who can cut my hair and have me leaving the salon and do things without that "Gah! I need to go home and wash and style my hair!" feeling, and she's never been wrong about product. She's also very reasonably priced, which is a bonus!

It must have been before I got here that Aqua posted it. I'll go hunting.

Your advice on finding the right stylist is almost as daunting as finding the right 'do', but I think you are correct about it. This could take me a while. I don't mind experimenting with a new style, yet I want to find something that appeals to me in the first round, not the 47th. :lol2:

Super short doesn't seem like a good fit right now, but shoulder length or a bit longer sounds really good. That would still be a big cut from the hip-length I have now. I'd love not to have to wear it braided so much of the time.

The last time I had it above shoulder length was when my daughter was a year old. She's 14 now. It's been trimmed many times since then, but not a serious cut like I plan to get now.

Thanks!

One more thing - from experience - if you're going to ask for layers, tell the stylist that you still want to be able to pull it all back sometimes. If you're used to wearing it back all the time, it might drive you batty if you can't do that because you have "not quite long enough" layers in the front.

As anyone can clearly see, that is a "doll". For cross reference, a "babe" would be my first picture a few posts up.

SUPER suggestion, because I will need to 'pony' it during home renovation projects. Pigtails are fine for 6 year olds, but I'm about 40 years too late for that. :lol2:

Kincaid, you are a very nice guy and truly a good sport for participating in this hair-raising thread. At least you had the company of SEVERAL very lovely women. All the other guys were fools to not follow your lead.

You deserve a gold star and a cookie.
