My God, Frank!

I don't come around here much - I had no idea. I have no suggestions - in fact I can't say anything other than if I could do anything to help you I would gladly do it.

Hang in there.

Oh man, Frank, I didn't even know about cluster headaches until I read your posts and looked it up on Wiki. I'm so sorry you have to suffer this.

Thanks, everyone. NPP, I mentioned high-flow O2 to my neurologist. He replied, "Oh, you don't look cyanotic to me..." I tried to explain, but he wasn't listening. A Vanderbilt-trained headache specialist/neurologist, and he didn't know dick about cluster headaches. He prescribed Depakote and oral Imitrex for "cluster migraines." There's no such thing. :veryangry:

Anyway, any medication taken orally takes at least twenty minutes to process and enter the bloodstream. Traditionally, injectible Imitrex is what is prescribed for cluster headaches because it takes effect nearly instantaneously. Anyway, I can't use it. It gives me rebound headaches that are just as bad, if not worse. (And sumatriptans are hell on the cardiovascular system!)

Last night was bad... A half hour hit at 9:00, and then up again with another agonizing 40-minute hit at 1:00 a.m.

Nietsche was wrong. What doesn't kill you just makes you wish it had.

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. This too shall pass. I just don't know when, and I'm running on empty. I'm mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually gassed...

Hey, Frank, sorry to hear about this . The MSG nexus is very interesting. At least you know something you can avoid like the plague. That makes sense to me, as I've always noticed that my temples throb after I've had MSG. I had a client who started having CHs after suffering a concussion from a slip and fall on ice. IIRC, he has them several times a week. Poor guy is totally disabled. It's amazing to me that no one has been able to figure out what causes them.

Just saw this--I thought it was a what's for dinner thread.

Frank, add me to the well wishers. If good vibes can help, you're getting a lot!

Thank you, Kathy. I was thinking the other day, that these things can't even be termed "headaches." I don't have an aching head. It's like a screwdriver being jammed into my eye, and then the pain radiates down the side of my face and along the side of my head above my ear, following the basic path of the trigeminal nerve.

The only thing they've determined, is that it's somehow connected with the hypothalamus gland, but how or why, how to cure it, what triggers its onset.. They just don't know.

This is what it looks like. I'm now averaging 2-4 hits/day, every single day, and I still have about four weeks to go... If the cycle cranks up the way it has been, I'll probably end up averaging 4-6 30-50-minute hits for each 24 hours, everyday until the end.

I'm feeling much better today. I got hit one more time last night, around 1:00 a.m., but it wasn't all that bad, and after that, I got to sleep in until 9:00, this morning. It's amazing what a difference being rested makes. I've been very depressed for the past week. Today, I feel like myself again.

Glad to hear it Frank. Hope the cycle is on the downswing and ends soon!
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Thank you, Horace. Me too. This has been pretty mild, compared to other cycles. Still kicks my ass, though...

Yes, I have. I don't know where to get it, though. Seems pretty good, even without taking the "recreational" dose. (My consciousness is a surreal enough place without adding hallucinogens to the mix!)

I felt pretty good today, until 9:00, and then got blasted with another hit. If things run in the pattern that they've been running, I can expect another around 12:30 a.m.

sh!t.... :(
