HOLY CARP!!!
|
I have to admit I haven't read the thread and have only read your first post where I sensed some excitement. I'm excited too! I didn't vote for Obama because I voted on issues important to me and not for race etc.......... But I think it's fantastic. I have lived with racism in the past. My very first job in 1975 was at a drycleaners. It was owned by Jews. They had two bathrooms. I'll never forget it. One said "ladies" the other said "gentleman". But on my first day at work they explained the "ladies" was for the whites and the "gentleman" was for the blacks. We had a black maid named "Oreo" who when I asked "Oreo, why are you named after a cookie?" she answered "Cuz! I'm black on the outside and white on the inside". I'll never forget it. I was about 5 yo. She said it with pride. Anyhow, at least the black youths of today, male and female, who are exposed to nothing but crime on the streets, know NOW that they can rise above. Seriously, this is SO important. Yes, many black professionals have come before them, many have risen above all the bigotry but now they KNOW they can become president some day. I think that is super cool! Now, it's time for Hispanics to realize it. And Jews! And American Indians! And etc.............. I'm sorry, yes, this is a PUI. added edit: and, yes, I've experienced racism being half Mexican. I know from experience what it's like to be a second class citizen. It's just all wrong. Kudos! Not that they elected Obama (who I'm not thrilled with) but Kudos! that we've made such a giant step in the "Mother may I" game. |

Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism. We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

No, those same people also don't think he was freely elected. |

I agree. As I noted in the past, if Obama can help solve the inner city black problems and help them become productive and educated citizens-- quit gangbanging, reduce crime among black males and therefore incarceration rates, stabilize the black family, get black men to be good fathers and healthy role models for the sons, etc -- it will be of tremendous benefit to the nation as a whole. |

I agree this is a great milestone. I think for the majority of minorities this will be boon. A symbolic barrier has been removed. For small majority of blacks, however, I think it will increase self-loathing. You remove your excuse and find out it's just you holding yourself back. Well, now that I think about it, white trash has been fairly constant over the years. So, perhaps new excuses will be found. |

Has a forumite ever been elected? From any forum - not just TNCR. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Indeed. In fact there have been several decidedly non Chalcedon compliant believers - four Unitarians & two Quakers - as well as four with undeclared affiliations and whose verifiable Christian credentials must be suspect. Mormon, Christian Scientist or Seventh Day Adventist buttocks however have yet to warm the big chair on Pennsylvannia Ave. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_affiliations_of_United_States_Presidents |

Mmmmmmm, pie!

Frankly I think it's all a crock of sh!t. We've been electing black people to office all over the country for years. We did it without a bunch of hoopla, their focus was generally on the issues, not their skin. If we can elect blacks to political office in nearly every state in the union, then we have already proven we are able and willing to elect a black man to the white house. The fact that he's black should have no more to do with things than the fact that Pelosi and Reid prove we're willing to elect village idiots. |
