Interesting.

Rachel eats beets all the time, in salads.

We also eat swiss chard - we like the assertive greens, we blanch it and then saute it with some bacon and onion.

We also drink pomegranate juice pretty regularly.

We have a couple of recipes with pumpkin, but probably only make them 2-3 times a year.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I'd like to eat more beets - I just don't know what to do with them, other than pickled beets (which are faboo!). I don't like juice of any kind. I CAN drink it, but I don't particularly enjoy it, so I don't. I'd rather eat a piece of fruit, or better yet, a veggie.

Care to share your pumpkin recipes, jon? I love pumpkin!

Mik - who is eating oatmeal with blueberries, blackberries and almonds as we speak.

Beets are great, but I don't use them much.

Oh that sounds good, Mik!

I have breakfast issues. I can't eat when I first wake up. I just have NO appetite whatsoever. And therefore, it's hard to make anything healthy, because I just don't want to eat. Two hours later - about the time I arrive at work - I all the sudden need to eat. I usually grab a bagel. I'd love to get up and have oatmeal in the morning, but except on weekends, it doesn't happen. I need to find some portable, easy to grab, healthy brekkie food to take with me.

I need to find them - I'll check later today.

Beets are disgusting!!!

Swiss chard is nice to counter-balance richer meats and seafood, but I prefer watercress.

Frozen wild blueberries from Whole Foods are awesome!

Hard-boiled egg. Cottage cheese. Piece of fruit.

Do as I say, not as I do.

hate beets with a magenta passion. My mother used to make me eat them. I have cinnamon in/on a lot of stuff, including my oatmeal. It's also nice in tea. I always have a package of blueberries in the freezer when I can't get them fresh. I throw them in salads as well as cereal, but my favorite Blueberry Bachanalia is Paula Dean's recipe for blueberry dumplings.

most of the rest of the stuff we do occasionally, I bought pomegranate juice at Costco once, it was okay-ish. The one thing that is not going to happen is sardines. I pity the fool who tries to feed sardines to this blonde soprano!

Been eating sardines all my life. Just picked up 2 cans (BOGO) yesterday and they're sitting in the pantry. I prefer the ones in mustard sauce.

Now I can't stop thinking about it. Those cans are calling me. Is it to early for lunch?

I have the same reaction when a discussion turns to lima beans. Disgusting little things, they are. :puke:

I love sardines. The ones in paprika or mushroom sauce are my favorites.

I use turmeric fairly often, in curries and such. I love the earthy flavour of it, and the colour it adds is fab.

I don't eat raw beets that much, but I guess I get some health points for really liking them when they're cooked! :hat: The small ones are sooooo good, just boiled in their skins, bit of butter and salt. Yum. I also make borscht quite often (just a veg version; red cabbage and onion, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, bit of lemon juice....serve with a glop of strained yogurt and a sprinkling of fresh dill)

Pumpkin is great in soup (curried! add some turmeric!). I also make a pumpkin peanut butter bread which makes a great snack.

Love pomegrante juice, am having a glass of pomegrante/blueberry juice as we speak. :)

Sardines......I'm working on. I want to like them.

I'm having four scrambled eggs with smked sausage links. Oh, with diced jalapenos mixed in.

The thought of beets gags me but we eat a ton of cabbage. I like sardines but prefer pickled herring. Buy the herring by the gallon.

My favorite variety of sardines, too. Instant sandwich with two slices of bread. I only began eating them as an adult, though. There were lots of foods that I didn't learn about on the farm. What we had was super, but we didn't eat too much that didn't grow there when I was young.

I love beets and just last Saturday had some as my lunch side dish.

We eat slaw every time we have pulled pork barbecue.

I have a recipe for pumpkin soup that's really good if anyone's interested.

I don't go near Improv for hours after he's eaten those disgusting sardines.

thanks for the dumplings, Improv, you are forgiven.

Will does a wonderful pumpkin soup too, Plays. yum yum yum

I like cooked cabbage (especially with corned beef) but the only kind of cabbage slaw I like is that sweet and sour kind that used to be called Forever Slaw. It has celery seeds and mustard and is in a vinaigrette. I just have a real strong aversion to mayonnaise.

And sardines are disgusting. My ex used to eat them, and I had very strict rules about the eating and disposal of the can. Ick.
