HOLY CARP!!!

I'm cooking a big pot of lentil soup with Black Forest Ham. I'm thinking of adding coconut milk for a new twist. Should it be added early so it can cook for a while? Or should I add it at the last minute because cooking it makes it go bad? I have never ever used coconut milk before, but enjoy it in the soups at Thai restaurants. |

Kenny, the coconut milk will go with the ham but not the lentils. In fact you should never mix coconut milk with any non meat dish including fish with scales but excluding shellfish of any type. |

I cook with coconut milk a lot because we're big curry fans. AC, I don't know why you don't think it will work with lentils, I have several recipes on file that contain red lentils and coconut milk. I also have some fish curries (not shellfish) with coconut milk. Kenny, you can put it in earlier in the cooking than you would milk or cream. |

Thanks DD. I've pretty much ignored AC for a few years now. Crying wolf, and all that. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

I'm with AC. I would not put coconut milk in that dish. It would not do well with the ham, I think. Try making good Tom Kha soup... to die for. |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |
