HOLY CARP!!!
|
I'm really hoping the new Trek movie reboots the franchise the way "Casino Royale" did for 007. But ST has become very hard to take seriously. |
|
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
|
I hope so too. But they have done so much overkill with it, and the movies have been so very uneven. |

OK, what was the bestest "Trek" movie? My vote: The Wrath Of Khan. ![]() |

Wrath of Khan, definitely. After that? First Contact Nemesis was not bad. IV - The Voyage Home was funny, if a little contrived. The Frontier one where theyh had the peace conference was interesting if uneven. Generations was godawful, as was the one with Spock's brother. |

For me, it's a tie between Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home. Guess I'm a sucker for whales. Undiscovered Country would have edged out First Contact, if only that had been truly the last time we saw the original crew. As it is, I enjoy them roughly the same. Edit: just saw a higher quality version of the trailer on the Apple website. Looks very cool. |

Why does this seem like Star Trek meets Bruce Willis? I'll withhold judgment, however. |

Gotta agree, P*D. Too much CGI, too many weird camera angles. It looks like one of those "Hey! Look what I can do on the screen!" movies - sort of like the 1st 3 (no, not the 70's) Star Wars movies. The reason Star Trek was successful (when reincarnated) was because of the characters, not the FX. I mean, the budget was so low, they had to come up with a new way of getting characters onto the planets - voila! Transporter! Yet, the stories were OK. And, you had sexy aliens. Always a good thing for a 16 year old. NextGen was the slow unravelling of that premise, with Geordi or Data pulling some anti-matter-inverter phase duplicator thingie out of their 24th century azzes. Now, we have this... Of course, I'll see it (on DVD), but I am not hopeful. |

You can't even see the strings on the spaceship. I like "The Trouble with Tribbles". You can watch the whole episode here: http://www.cbs.com/classics/star_trek/video/video.php?cid=649539296&pid=azYwOSn2cLeWwNAHTupsW_cmTKhWFF_T&play=true&cc=1 |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Spock seemed to be getting too emotional---takes away so much of the coolness of Vulcans when one loses their cool. |
