An assassin's bullets, by their very nature, are isolated incidents. There are over 300 million people in this country. We've had more than one President killed with much smaller populations. Therefore, it would stand to reason we've got more nutcases than ever before. Obama, or any other person seeking the Presidency, knows the risks going in. You minimize risk, have the best people in the world protect you, and hope nothing ever happens. But... If a man doesn't mind if he lives or dies, he can kill anybody in the world. Anybody... |

I'm sorry, Kathy, but this is a truly stupid non-sequitur. What Kenny said on the last page is rather appropriate. This thread was not started in a manner that would elicit either interesting or meaningful conversation. An article was presented so we could all emote over it ... or in this case be accused of enabling assassination if we don't cry and beat our breasts just because Jack or some other poster puts out an article to initiate a thread, and does so without any invitation to the rest of us to have a meaningful conversation. Then the whole thread degenerates into high moral dudgeon and petty sniping over "you said this" or "you failed to say that, so you are responsible for all evil in the world." Grow up, people. |

I'll let Jolly speak for himself - but as far as I'm concerned you can kiss my ass. You are as batty as they come. No one here is "complacent". No one here has wished any harm come to anyone. YOUR side of the aisle however, has wished harm, death, you name it, to a whole list of republicans and conservatives. If we follow your simple minded reactionary logic, then you have the blood of millions of Iraqis on your hands. You have the blood of millions of Vietnamese and Cambodians on your hands. And, you have the blood of untold millions of infants on your hands. There are racists in this world, idiot. They are a plague on society. There are liberals in this world also - and to tell you the truth, the actions of people like you are much more dangerous than the small number of people who are fanatical morons because of their racial extremism. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. Don't worry about Kathy too much. She's kinda like that aunt or first cousin that exists in everyone's family, crazy as a waltzing pissant, but lovable in her own, somewhat unique way. Just don't ask them to say the blessing at family meals, along with keeping them away from sharp objects and table corners. |

Thank you, Lindy for having the decency and cajones to say. WASHINGTON — The Secret Service would not comment or provide the number of cases they are investigating. But since the Nov. 4 election, law enforcement officials have seen more potentially threatening writings, Internet postings and other activity directed at Obama than has been seen with any past president-elect, said officials aware of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the issue of a president's security is so sensitive. |

Yeah, well. . . there are plenty of nuts, and an abundance of degrees of nutiness. There might even be those that way down deep, hope something might happen. If it did, it would give justification to outrage, someone or some group to hate. Some people just need to hate, and seem a bit lost without it. |

I suppose it was a mistake for ME to post this article. I disagree strenuously with Mik--i think it IS relevant and worth sharing. Unlike Mik, i did not think it was predictable--but I can be a bit optimistic. I think the thread would have taken off in a very different direction if George had posted the link instead of me. It's a shame that the personalities here got in the way of a genuine response to the awful stuff described in the article. JB, thanks for acknowledging that much. It wasn't my intent to do anything more than that. jf |

I'll tell you what I want to do, kathy. I want to go back in time and not post the eye roll, and leave the words I'd originally typed in its place. But so often in life, there are some things that are best left unsaid. You should try it more often yourself. |

You know what. Sometimes I think things need to be said, even though I might not be well liked for saying them. One thing you won't find me doing is insulting and belittling people. But, I will challenge wrong headed ideas. |

It's one thing to not be liked for speaking uncomfortable truth. It's another thing to not be liked for speaking nonsense and smearing the character of everyone around you with untrue insults. It's yet a third thing to be able to discern the difference, or that there's actually any difference at all, between the first two. |
