You have lost all grip on reality. Complacency? Last time I looked, none of us work for law enforcement agencies and are not tasked with addressing these issues. If the agencies in question were not pursuing you would have some legitimate grievance against them. But not against anyone on this board. On the other hand, if it would make you so mad you would never speak to us again, well, Obama did say he'd bring hope.

Why? No one here has condoned these actions, nor does anyone I know wish for harm to come to Obama. But these actions would happen whether it was Obama, or Powell or Rice or Alan Keyes or J.C. Watts or any other black person became president. To bemoan the obvious and predictable as if surprised is just foolish. It is interesting, on a side observation, to note that the GOP has had more blacks that could be considered viable candidates than the Democrats. |

All of the light hearted comments about the explosion of death threats. That sort of complacency emboldens and enables the types of people making the threats and plotting to carry them out. No, Jolly, I will not leave the country. But, if anything horrible happens to him, you will have his blood on your hands for your hateful complacency. VPG, that one instance of hanging a Palin dummy, as idiotic as it was, was not a death threat and your comparing it with this astounds me. What is your point - that the death threats against Obama and violence that as been perpetrated against his supporters since the election is justified by that one stupid act? Anyone who minimizes this stuff has his head in the sand and anyone who laughs at it or in any way condones it is complicit. We all have a responsibility to make it explicitly clear that things like lotteries guessing when Obama's assassination will take place are disgusting and won't be tolerated. Honestly, it makes me wonder which of you are secretly hoping it will happen. |

And I heard no outrage from the left about the pictures I posted. I heard no outrage when McCain's campaign bus was shot at, SHOT AT, this year. Spare me the outrage. The claims of complicity are thin, at best. |

Again, George, those very few isolated incidents regarding McCain are nothing compared to what is going on here. There is a huge wave of hatred sweeping the country amongst a small segment of society. We all have a moral obligation to quell it by voicing disapproval. Edit: From what I can see, story about the bus was never confirmed, which is no doubt why the MSM never picked up on it. Like the girl who pretended to be beat up by an Obama supporter, it could just as easily have been perpetrated by a McCain supporter to try to stoke outrage. And, I have no idea what pictures you're talking about, but I find it really sad and disheartening that you are attempting to minimize the import of this current trend. |

Did you feel a moral obligation to quell the huge wave of hatred against Bush? Didn't think so. You, Obama and the Democrats were surfing it. |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. I don't remember ever hearing of threats of assassination of Bush or violence perpetrated against Bush supporters. The very few times that I saw things like pictures of a Bush dummy being strung up in a noose, you can bet I voiced by disapproval, as I did with the Palin dummy incident. |

That depends on the point of view. As I said above, when Jessie Jackson defined racism and it's end, he talked about the "power to enforce it". You may not remember, but there used to be government officials who publicly and actively fought against civil rights. They had the "power to enforce it". Sure, you may always be able to say that there are racists. With Mr. O's election the era of government power enforcing it is now clearly and finally over. |

So, anyone here who does not engage in an orgy of sanctimonious, self-righteous chest-beating upon hearing about death threats against Obama now will be complicit in Obama's death should it happen. Beyond rediculous. These are the same people who found nothing wrong with books and movies describing a Bush assassination. If anything could be said to be stoking hatred for a president. |

It would be a catastrophe for this nation were any physical harm ever to come to Obama. Nobody here thinks otherwise. It would be a very, very, VERY bad thing for loyal opposition Republicans were any harm ever to come to him, heaven forbid. Think about the implications for a second. He is my president (or will be shortly), even though I disagree with him on Obama and the D’s will fail spectacularly on their own. They need no help. Who knows, maybe I will be wrong about that. But that is the way things are supposed to happen in the American system, and that's they way I believe it will happen. It’s surreal that some good people here are being accused of not being outraged *enough* that some clown somewhere wants something bad to happen to Obama. Has anybody been paying attention the last 8 years? The level of hatred and ill will towards Bush, the death wishes for Cheney with his heart condition, etc, etc... Scope, perspective and sense of proportion. We need some. Now I’m going out to grab some Starbucks and to look for some good music. |
