Not nearly as many in this country as in pretty much any other country in the world. We must be doing something profoundly right.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

So, it's okay, is it? Well, how about this?

Since election day, the number of threats against the president-elect, and racial or violent incidents directed at his supporters, have soared. The Secret Service is concerned, calling it the highest number of threats against a President-elect in memory, but the national media until this weekend have largely ignored the disturbing pattern. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

Still a big hohum for you? Maybe you'd like to join the Obama assination lottery here in my state I have half a mind to drive to that store, which is only 1/2 hour from where I live, and give them a piece of me.

Actually there may be some racists, but racism is over.

I remember many years ago Jessie Jackson, when asked about the end of racism, saying over and over that racism depended on "the power to enforce it".

"The power to enforce it", he repeated over and over.

The words mean nothing without "the power to enforce it", he repeated over and over.

The talk was specifically in the context of a discussion of the power of the presidency.

I really hope Mr. O comes forward in January and declares it over, loud and clear.

There will never be a better opportunity. I can’t imagine any other event where it could actually be declared.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

No, I'm aware that it will never be "ok" since the existence of racism plays such an important emotional role in teh lives of guilty white liberals. As long as there are stories of 9 year olds saying stupid things to each other on playgrounds (mostly what Jack's story involved), there will be enough righteous indignation to feed off of and you won't have to find something else to give your life meaning. Not to worry.

I wouldn't joke about an Obama assassination. Such a thing would perhaps be the greatest social disaster in the history of mankind.

Partially because of the fever pitch taught emotional string guilty white liberals like you and your husband have worked so hard to create around the issue of racism, in your insatiable gluttony for righteousness.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

what a sorry excuse for a thread. What is the point? Is there an argument here to discuss, or are we just supposed to throw mud at each other like always.

Indeed. Is there ANYONE who did not know that there would be some idiots who reacted this way, and that security around Obama would be like nothing before? That sounds awfully naive to me. It would be the same for the first black president regardless of who they are.

Is it a surprise, Jack? I'd suggest that it is not at all. (And why people would want to make snarky comments about it I don't know.)

And because you think it was forseeable, I should not be saddened by it, deplore it, or share those thoughts here???

Tell that to the folks who are having crosses burned in their front yards.

I am, to put it mildly, astonished at your choice of adjective.

Put away the outrage, Jack. It doesn't fit you very well. This is all so completely foreseeable as to be laughable. It could have been a lot worse.

You adjectives continue to blow me away.

I repeat myself:

"And because you think it was forseeable, I should not be saddened by it, deplore it, or share those thoughts here???"

Simple enough question, Mik. Can you answer it? Would yes or no be too complicated for you?

I think it makes you look rather silly, yes. Or did you really believe that racism was dead in every American because Obama was elected and that we would all have a white house with a white picket fence and a rainbow in the back yard?

"And because you think it was forseeable, I should not be saddened by it, deplore it, or share those thoughts here???"

Obama's election did not end racism, any more than Clinton's election ended East Coast prejudice against Southerners.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

On my life, if harm comes to Obama during between now and the end of his term as president, there are people on this board I will never forgive for their complacency in this which I will view as enabling of the hateful wave that seems to be gathering. Let's only hope that is is quelled.
