Not an anonymous poll. Go on record by posting here.

This is not: who do want to win OR who do you think should win-

Who will win?

Obama

Ron Paul! :leaving:

Shoot, man, I think it's really still too early to say with decent accuracy. Right now, the odds are in Obama's favor, as much as I don't want to say it or believe it.

Well, if we are echoing WTF here, here's what I posted there.

Obama will win. The reason is the Republicans, by virtue of the last 8 years, are seen as responsible for the economic mess we are in. Most of us know it was a bi-partisan effort, but the Republicans do deserve, and are getting, most of the blame. Sarah Palin's perceived lack of experience is not even an issue, after all Obama has only slightly more. I suspect that President Obama will turn out to be better than many of us expect, and will, by being a reasonably good president, totally infuriate the Obamamaniacal True Believers.

I think Obama will probably win. And, I hope it makes a difference.

Our first black president. This should change things, yes?

I expect that the 80%-90% high school drop out rate will decrease dramatically in black urban schools, as kids realize they can now realistically grow up to be president. I expect that black males will begin to take responsibility in their lives and their community, and help support raising their children. I expect gangs to lose their influence, and that African-Americans (and other minorities) will find a tide change in their communities desires to find success via education and jobs.

If none of the above happens to a measurable degree, I find no great importance in the phrase, "our first black president."

I expect my taxes to go down considerably. I expect universal affordable health care. I expect huge increases in federal funding for education, along with rapid growth in the economy and many of the outsourced jobs coming back as promised. I expect us out of Iraq within 16 months with no backlash/repercussions in the middle east, just peace. Have I missed anything?

If the above are a sure thing. . . I do hope he wins.

It's hard to call right now. You have two very strong tides pushing in opposite directions.

The economy is a huge plus for Obama, but his skin color is a huge negative.

I'm still thinking McCain will pull it out, but it's a little like standing on a knife edge. It could fall dramatically one way or the other, with just a little push.
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

I'd guess Obama.

That being said, it would be nice to be able to have conversations about the whole thing without the inevitable devolving into "he's an idiot / she's a moron / he's a terrorist / he's senile" etc.... Believe it or not, most of my friends are Democrats, and I really enjoy talking about the election with them. We often disagree, but we still stay friends, respectful of one another.

I am thining Obama because of the economy.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

one forgets the repercussions of having black president. I hope many of these things come to pass altho i think 'eventually' is a word to be included in your statement.

I noticed when he first really popped into the media.. i saw black men with true pride and joy in their eyes.. there was real difference. I was so happy to see that. Kansas City has a segragated black core of the financially challenged as well as many black people who have successfully integrated into our metro. I'm hoping the integration will continually increase. So many of the problems that blacks experience are due directly to poverty.

As a formerly staunch republican, i hope the new direction that our country might take, may get us back on keel. I had hopes that George Bush would be more of a centrist.

I cannot imagine the immensity of the next's president's job. He will inherit a mess and receive much of the blame if things do not go well.

I'm surprised that you believe that Quirt. I have heard very little dissatisfaction with the fact that Obama is black..

Here, that is not an issue as far as I've heard. I associate with all sorts, from many economic backgrounds and have heard virtually no prejudice in that regard.

Where do you live? Do your associates feel the same way? Is your neighborhood lily white? (mine is pretty white).

Barring any surprises, I don't think the outcome is in question. McCain is as much acknowledging he is desperate by leaving Michigan and going dirty. The campaigns have much better polling than we have access to and I expect McCain's people are telling him it looks grim, as in, nothing to lose....

I don't look forward to the next month.

And if he is elected, and NOTHING changes in the black urban communities over his tenure, what would the result be? Should anyone be concerned that the vague benefits of having a black president (other than making certain people feel real good) could set back social issues if he accomplishes nothing, and does not become a role model in urban communities throughout the country?

If being the first black president is important, why is this so important?

Mine is fairly white, but with a signficiant Asian minority. Western suburbs of Boston.

I just think there will be people in America who will have trouble voting for a black man. A significant number.

Overall, I think being black will get him more votes than it will cost him.

Having a part in making history is cool. :thumb:
Each voter gets to make history this time - in the privacy of the voting booth! so all your bigoted friends will never know you helped push the country into the future.

Unfair perhaps, but very real.

I disagree. I believe you are right to a point, but that there are many, many more people that will vote for him BECAUSE he is black. And that to me, is disturbing. I do not understand what it means or what it is that some people find so important in his being black.

there are certainly many women who would have voted for hillary because she was a woman, or Palin for that matter.

I just read an article about blacks waiting with baited breath and hope.. i suppose he can count on their votes for the most part.

What does "Uhm, equality" mean? What does "Uhm, equality" have to do with the middle east, the war on terrorism, the economy going down the tubes, the dropout rate of 80%-90% in urban high schools, the future of our country?

And maybe that's my question, as I try to come to some sort of understanding. Hope? Hope for what? That Obama is elected? Fine, he is elected and is president.

Then what is the hope? That is my question.
