Okay then.
I'll contribute my bit.
I'll ship y'all a truck-load of ice.
It's expensive.
You're worth it.
You'll need it.

That's quite enough talk about John D'Oh's bowels, thank you very much. I'm trying to drink a cup of coffee here.

I grew up eating chicken vindaloo. Nothing America has can even begin to challenge my bowels, which are actually impregnated with asbestos.

Is that what you are bringing to the reunion??

Currently?

Just a drive-by fruiting.

But, it's the nature of the fora. Due to our lax, free-wheeling biker bar rules, guys that don't normally hang out here can come by and pitch a few things they probably wouldn't in their normal environments.

The Obama guys are really not going to like what they are going to get, but they just don't see it. I'm no McCain fan, but he certainly is the less of two evils. Obama will roll in with the most liberal agenda since the Great Society (and we all know how well that one worked out), and no money to pay for it.

Therefore, he is going to soak the upper classes, and he'll go about raising taxes on the middle class through less obvious means, while leaving the poor alone or even increasing the earned income credit. Problem is, poor people don't hire anybody and we already have one of the world's highest business tax rates.

Money is like water, it will flow to the area of least resistance. The money will leave and then the jobs. The rest of us will be struggling too hard to open small businesses at a rate sure to fire up the economy. And the less fortunate will not have their benefits cut, even though there will be more of them than before.

Prediction: Within 36 months of Obama being elected, unemployment will be over 8% and the prime will have doubled. Now, that's really crawling out on a limb, but it still is not as bad as Carter...

Jolly, I can't wait to see what you'll bring. I bet it's something I'll really like and want the recipe. You better just plan to bring the recipe, too.

What is everyone else going to bring??

Well, we're trying to make homemade sauerkraut from cabbage we grew in our garden this year. My wife's family made it when she was a kid. Whooeee, does that stuff stink as it's fermenting. As a good Swede, it goes against the grain a bit, but I'll give it a try.

Or I could bring some deviled eggs made with the eggs our chickens are just starting to lay

Course, I could bring some Lutefisk! Love that stuff.

OK, everyone, beware of the puchbowl after Frank arrives.

Ok, we'll save the Lutefisk for Christmas. ^_^

Keeping in theme, then, I'll bring the Swedish meatballs, the lefse, and the potato sausage.

Those are all good!

Do you like your lefse with brown sugar, white sugar, only butter, or what?

I like it with butter and brown sugar. If I'm going to be decadent, then just do it!

Does your family really eat lutefisk for Christmas??? I have never learned to like it, but I have eaten it. It's popular at the church dinners around here, but it's not a family thing for us on either side of the family.

My side of the family loves oyster stew for either Christmas or New Year's Day. My hubby took to that tradition immediately. He loves it even more than I do.

Absolutely, yes. We've had it every year as long as I can remember at our extended family Christmas gathering. And I'm sure it was many years before I was born as well. They buy their annual supply at the "factory" in Day, Minnesota. Now that my grandmother is gone, maybe the tradition will die out eventually. But at least for now it's still going strong.

It's your first exposure to the stuff I think that determines whether or not you'll like it. It must be served HOT, with clarified butter, white sauce, paprika, and salt/pepper. Either that, or grow up eating the stuff because your dad puts it on your plate when you're 3 years old.

St. Olaf served it every year at Christmas when I went there, and my uncle's restaurant, King Oscar's, served it and rutabagas around holiday time when they were in business. He was listed as the only "Scandinavian" restaurant in the ethnic foods section of the yellow pages in the Twin Cities.

The oyster stew sounds interesting, but I'm not entirely sure if I'd be able to get on board with that one.

I bet you would like the oyster stew. If you can handle lutefisk, then oyster stew will be an easy reach for you!!

Does your family have a good recipe for the meatballs and gravy? I think my hubby and daughter would love it. I have been to MANY a church dinner while campaigning, and the meatball dinners are usually really good, but some are better than others.

My Scandinavian grandparents had lutefisk for Christmas every year. I don't remember it, but I guess it stank up the house.

My English family who settled in New England had clam chowder for their Christmas dinner.

Sadly, I don't have the family recipes for either.

Just don't eat the fruit at the bottom, and you should be able to remain reasonably coherent. :lol2:
