So will Obama get in the mud w/ McCain?; what say you?

So as McCain and Palin go fiercely negative, what's Obama's response going to be?

I'll bet he'll continue to hammer on the economy. He'll acknowledge McCain's negative shift in ads, but fold it into a message of 'he knows he has no plan therefore he's resorting to dirty politics as usual'.

What do you think he'll do?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

If a guy is covered with mud, there is nothing wrong with pointing at it.

It goes both ways.

Ms. Palin's daughter and her fiance were the lead story in every newspaper and TV show in the world a few weeks ago.

Bigger than Iraq or the economy.

That was dirty.

Here was the campaigns reaction to Palin's wallowing this afternoon:

"What's clear is that John McCain and Sarah Palin would rather spend their time tearing down Barack Obama than laying out a plan to build up our economy,"

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

You have to wonder why they don't just explain about Mr. Obama's terrorist pals.

Didn't McCain say he wouldn't run a negative campaign? Why the change of heart?

Oh yes, he's losing. Sorry. Obviously, if you're losing it's OK to go back on your word.

Presumably, after he turned his back on years of believing in non-interference in the economy based on the fact that the economy is totally f*cked, this was easy.

The McCain campaign has information that his opponent is associating with terrorists.

The desire to run a clean campaign doesn't outweigh the duty to pass along this information.

If there is a villain here it is surely the man associating with terrorists.

On the bright side, its fun to see the McCain camp panic. I can only imagine how pathetic he'll look on Tuesday if he carries this sh1t into the debate.

I have always been fascintaed by the left's definition of "negative campaigning". It always seems to mean telling the truth about them but never comes close to anything they do.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Sure it’s not restricted by any facts. That allows for much more realism.

It all fits together nicely.

But, we’re still left with the terrorist friends of BHO.

Right.

The main reason for the difference between our opinions being of course that I don't give a sh!t who wins your stupid election.

Did you transpose those last two words on purpose?

Did you transpose those last two words on purpose?

Certainly not. I think most non-Americans would agree that the election is the very height of stupidity.

One possible improvement I might suggest is that Simon Cowell could critique the contestants after each debate. It would add some much-needed gravitas.

From the article you quoted in the other thread it seems that McCain's actions are a reaction to what Obama has already done:

"Obama has run television commercials for months linking McCain to lobbyists and hinting at a lack of personal ethics."

Somehow that's not negative?

Of course, having the New York Times publish unsubstantiated and undocumented rumors of an affair by McCain helps, as does publishing 3 stories about Sarah Palin's unwed daughter's pregnancy above the fold on page 1 helps.

Obama went negative first in this campaign, as I recall.

Obama went back on a big promise see (see: campaign finance) when it suited his campaign. And now McCain is going back (yet again) on his promise to run a positive campaign. I don't like either of them breaking either of those promises. But it's a double-edged sword and Obama would be hypocritical (not a first) to criticize McCain for breaking this particular promise.

McCain can presumably argue that it's OK to go back on your word if the other guy goes back on his word first.

Which, ladies and gentlemen, explains the reason for the current morally bankrupt political climate.

I wonder what that's a code word for?

I suppose I'll have to ask someone who's clean and articulate.

Not sure who put that out but it does not look like it was the campaign.
