It's plain embarrassing how much less the Palin's make than do the Obamas, Bidens and McCains. They should be ashamed of themselves. She's simply not good enough to be VP. |

Child tax credits for 4 kids. Mortgage interest deduction (I assume they have one). All sorts of business expense deductions, if they own a business. Frankly, I'm not surprised. All legit, I think. |

You know what I think? The middle class' income taxes are too low. But then they gotta pay FICA on that, too. |

That doesn't surprise me at all that you would think that. But FICA is probably already built into that. |

Weren't a pragraph, IT, it was two sentences. I think they explain themselves. EDIT: Ok i assumed you didn't really think anyone was sucking Obama's dick, and your intent was not a National Enquirer kind of thing, so as a metaphor, that's pretty over the top. Did you clear that post with your wife? jf |

That seems extraordinarily unlikely. FICA isn't subject to many deductions. FICA in 2006 would have been close to 6k, if their total bill was only 12k that means they paid 5% income tax. |

Is the 130 K gross or adjusted (one more time). You obviously have never worked on a 1099. |

Maybe Jon's on to something. Raise taxes more and more and more, especially on the lower and middle class. "Let them eat cake!" Maybe then, people will begin to revolt. It's high time. |

If it is gross then it is the amount before any expenses are deducted. I have worked as a contractor for 15 years and my 1099 includes every transaction to me by the client, all expenses included. These are deducted right off the top before I arrive at "adjusted" income. Tax (including FICA) is assessed on that. Hence, my question: Gross? or Gross adjusted? Sorry for the imprecision. Friday, wine and all. |

All I've seen is the article. I don't think they're free lance / contractors. But there has to be some reason why their taxes are so low. THey don't have that many kids. |

Don't get pedantic, Jack. It was a paragraph. The paragraph doesn't explain itself at all, and has nothing to do with the substance of the rest of the article -- it is a cheap shot at McCain and Palin implying they released the information early to hide embarrassment. I asked you for another reading of it, which you seem unable to give. Therefore, I am content that the metaphor is quite appropriate. |

Her husband works in the oilfield if I'm not mistaken. That could easily account for a lot of expenses. But we are both speculating. The bottom line is that a 130 K income with a 12 K tax bill is not prima facie tax evasion. |
