I'm tired. I'm tired of bills getting so mangled for political gain. A candidate votes against a bill giving $20,000,000 grants for studying the effect of belly button lint on Global Warming. At the same time, there's a small pork inclusion that would give $10,000 to Cancer Research. Next election cycle, here come the ads: Candidate X voted against Curing Cancer. He wants your children to die! . It's absurd, ridiculous, and IMHO broken.

Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope" talks about this very phenomenon in Chapter 4, and explains how copes with it, and what he thinks can be done to make it better. Read it, it might just might help you regain some hope. ^_^

As Jolly says, you can pretty much ignore what politicians say. Watch what they do.

In martial arts, it was always, "Watch the feet." You could always tell what your opponent was really going to do, by watching where their feet went, regardless of the noise they were making.

Anyway... Off to get ripsnortin' drunk. First day off I've had in two weeks, and I'm in a mix of pissed-off, angry, depressed, and tired.

Have a good weekend, folks. I'm jacked-out...

I'm off to bed. Disappointingly sober.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

We were taught to watch the torso, but I agree.

With politicians, I believe one should watch the genitals. If you stop, even for a moment, chances are they'll screw you.

And you think you've got it bad???

I've got a hitch in my gitalong.

Is that something like having your panties in a wad? :leaving:

IT, it was meant as a humorous way to say LD is not alone in his concerns and despair. I, too, am disappointed in our legislators. What a sorry lot they are.

That phrase can also denote a painful joint, usually a hip, during walking. As expensive as this bailout will be, walking away from this mess will certainly be painful.

Stick with me, buddy, I'm full of surprises. Sorry I have been tied up lately with family stuff, but maybe that's just as well.

I'm off for movie number two with the teenage girls' slumber party. Parental guidance and all that, you understand. Frank is busy, so I took on the task.

We watched Hitchcock's 'Rear Window' first, took a break, and now it's 'Chicken Run'.

Let me know if you have ever seen that second one.

I hear you, Brenda! I' hadn't heard that phrase before -- but very appropriate for the neuralgia we are all dealing with.

I've never seen Chicken Run -- isn't Mel Gibson in it? Rear Window is one of MS and my favos -- we love Hitch. Enjoy the girls!

'Chicken Run' is great fun! Yes, Mel Gibson does one of the voices. It's a Nick Park claymation, if you are familiar with his Wallace and Gromit films. Put it on your Netflix queue.

The girls are still here yet (it's noon) and they are doing homework. Can you tell I'm the tough mom?

Wot Rainaman said. What's also scary is how the $700 billion is going to be administered. From today's paper:

The government will hire only a bare-bones internal staff of about two dozen people with expertise in asset management, accounting and legal issues, administration officials said, and will outsource the bulk of the program to five to 10 asset management firms.

The selected firms will receive a chunk of the $250 billion that Congress is allowing the Treasury to spend in the first phase of the bailout. Those firms will receive fees that are likely to be lower than the industry standard of 1 percent of assets.

Administration officials said they would try to drive down fees with a competitive bidding process. But with $700 billion to disburse, the plan could still generate tens of billions of dollars in fees if the firms negotiate anywhere close to their standard fees.

Treasury faces huge challenge

Remember the Katrina fiasco with not much of the funds actually making it to disaster relief? I wonder how much of the $700 billion will end up in the coffers of the "selected firms".

Not impressed whatsoever. :tsktsk:

Remember just a short time ago it was almost the conventional wisdom that a Senator couldn't get elected to the Presidency, since he'd be too exposed for all the things he'd voted 'for' or 'against'.

That's why you get a Senator who's done nothing, and is still very wet behind the ears.

I got drunk, grabbed the guitar and sang a whole bunch of bawdy, silly songs, fumbled with the piano for a while, and then crashed and slept for fourteen hours straight. If I could have catheterized myself, I probably would have slept for another six or seven hours...

I feel better. Oddly, I'm finding that it hasn't improved my jzitty attitude, and I still don't give a damn.

Other than that, I'm just fine.
