I'm done. It doesn't really matter to me anymore who wins this fall. On one side, there's a party that promotes and pushes policies that run completely counter to my beliefs and thoughts. On the other side is a party that pays lip service to my principles, but at the end of the day only tries to live up to those principles and idealogy 10% of the time; and even that 10% is often bungled and mismanaged by a group of incompetents.

I'm tired. I'm tired of bills getting so mangled for political gain. A candidate votes against a bill giving $20,000,000 grants for studying the effect of belly button lint on Global Warming. At the same time, there's a small pork inclusion that would give $10,000 to Cancer Research. Next election cycle, here come the ads: Candidate X voted against Curing Cancer. He wants your children to die! . It's absurd, ridiculous, and IMHO broken.

This bailout bill is just another extreme example. I despise the idea of it, but I see it as a short term necessary evil. Now, though, it's so loaded up with ridiculous pork that it was literally making me sick. Bad enough that it changed my opinion towards the bailout and figured screw it. Can the whole damn thing, cry havoc, and...... You get the rest.

I did feel that way. Not anymore. Screw it. I'm done.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Seems to me that the bulk of the electorate is getting so divorced from reality that pretty soon even representative democracy isn't going to save us from catastrophe.

It was a good run and we can coast on fumes for a few decades I'm sure. But yeah I have always believed that humans aren't smart enough or cooperative enough with one another to avert eventual social disaster. But maybe I'll be proven wrong. I don't have kids so it's pretty easy for me not to care too much.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Remember just a short time ago it was almost the conventional wisdom that a Senator couldn't get elected to the Presidency, since he'd be too exposed for all the things he'd voted 'for' or 'against'.

Both candidates promise to go to Washington and clean it up, get rid of pork.

Instead, both signed on to a bill that had $150 BILLION in pork tagged on. Unbelievable. The middle class is hammered, and then forced "for their own good" after the incompetence of congress and the greedy rich,
to make sure the rich stay. . . rich. This is just sickening. How dare they add $150 BILLION in pork.

The 110th do-nothing Congress: Tax breaks for Hollywood, 192 million for rum?, 100 million for Nascar, and those wooden arrows for children. . .and on and on and on.

We'd be a lot better off if they truly were a "do-nothing" Congress. At this point, I feel like these people are all playing for the opposite team. Feh.

The sad thing in my mind is that the Republicans are so bereft of credibility, principles and backbone that I can't even really suggest that voting the bums out is a viable alternative.

I know Mark's going to say I told you so, but...

If this mess had come to this point in May, Ron Paul could have made some real hay as a third party candidate, a la Perot.

The thing is that if Ron Paul did run as an independent, it would just about guarantee Obama as President. If he managed to get a lot of votes, I guess it might at least send a message.

LD I feel the same way.

I will vote Obama this election because I feel like he is the best candidate.

Other than that, how the heck are ya? I'm working like a dog and taking care of my son when I'm not working. So my life pretty much sucks right now! OK I guess I'm lucky to be working and lucky to have a son to take care of...but where has my funhog ski bum life gone?

Oh woe is I my well has gone dry and my cow will just give powdered milk.

Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope" talks about this very phenomenon in Chapter 4, and explains how copes with it, and what he thinks can be done to make it better. Read it, it might just might help you regain some hope. ^_^
