HOLY CARP!!!
|
My yard desperately needs grass trimming. I have a ton of errands to run, and some indoor fixing-up to do. I have financial statements to work on, and documents for my potential employment in Canada to complete. I NEVER procrastinate. But this morning... ... I'm sitting glued to the TV, watching the Olympics and eating honey-roasted peanuts. And sports I usually couldn't care less about, like fencing and rowing, I can't take my eyes off of. Dammit! Every four years, I'm useless for two weeks... |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |

Yeah, I procrastinate 1 to 2 days each week. I'm highly productive on the other days. Yesterday was a procrastinate day. I opened all the windows to let in some fresh air and then napped on the couch. It was beautiful. |

When I can sit down and schedule out my week or month, I always make sure to pencil in days like that. I consider them to be an essential decompression from the stresses of being productive and busy, the rest of the time. Same thing with my workout regimen: One day a week is built in for doing nothing, and for just hogging-out on junk food, if I feel the need. Everyone needs a day off, and it's funny that in our modern lives, with so many conveniences that save us so much time, we end up busier than ever before. R E L A X . . .

Yeah, I don't schedule those days. They silently descend upon me right when I have a long list in my hand. |

Yeah, the Olympics give you the opportunity to watch sporting events that you rarely see or hear about any more. Where else can can you see the hammer throw, synchronized swimming, javelin, field hockey, and fencing? I wonder if the Olympics keeps some of those events around just so they can hand out more medals? Media coverage of certain events is pretty limited. I can't remember ever having seen field hockey being played. Myself, I like to watch volleyball, equestrian, and pole vaulting. |

I heard the U.S. women swept the fencing medals, and that two of the athletes were from Oregon. Woot! |
